Emerald aims to capture 7% of wheat exports this year
(agricultural Wealth Network) Australia's Emerald Group recently said that Emerald Group plans to grab 7% of the country's winter grain export market share this year.
Emarald plans to export 2.5 million tonnes of Australian winter grain, accounting for about 7 per cent of total winter grain production of 36 million tonnes. Nearly 2/3 of the grain will be wheat.
So far, Australian farmers have pledged to deliver 1.5 million tons of wheat, barley and rapeseed to Emerald Group's pool.
The Emerald Group has also raised as much as A $350 million from financial partners, including the ANZ Banking Group.
In 2008, the Emerald Group sold 1.5 million tons of grain, accounting for 4.5 per cent of total production. By 2014, the group's market share is expected to reach 15%, he said. AWB, by contrast, grabbed 25 per cent of the national wheat export market last year.
