Philippines: imported Meat impacts Local Industry
To meet the demand for meat during the Christmas season, the Philippine government plans to import pork and chicken, which will also bring down the price of agricultural products. Usually, Filipino demand for chicken and pork products (such as ham) increases in the second half of the year due to year-end festivals. But industry insiders also say that demand for processed meat will decline.
Some industry experts say that the prices of agricultural products have not yet fallen significantly, and the purchasing power of residents is still low. If so, after imported meat products enter the market, local meat products may compete with cheap imported products by reducing prices.
