Songyang, Zhejiang won the title of "Top Ten characteristic Tea producing Counties in China".

Recently, Songyang County was awarded the title of "National key Tea producing County" and "National Top Ten characteristic Tea producing County" at the Fifth Annual meeting of China Tea Industry economy held in Chengdu. This is another honor after the county won the title of characteristic agriculture such as "hometown of famous tea in China", "distribution center of green tea in China" and "strong county of tea in Zhejiang Province".

The selection took more than two months by the China Tea Circulation Association to comprehensively evaluate the tea production, planting, processing, sales and foreign trade in more than 1000 tea-producing counties across the country, and selected the national key tea-producing counties in 2009. On this basis, select the tea-producing counties with national characteristics. A total of 128 counties and cities from 15 provinces across the country participated in the competition for the title of the first batch of "top ten tea counties with national characteristics". The tea industry in Songyang County won the title because of its distinctive characteristics.

Zhang Zengli, chairman of the Chinese people's political Consultative Conference of Songyang County, , and Ye Zhengxian, deputy county magistrate, attended the annual meeting. At the meeting, Deputy County Mayor Ye Zhengxian introduced the experience of Songyang's gradual development from a small tea county to a large and strong tea county. In recent years, the Songyang county party committee and county government have made a timely decision to develop and strengthen the Songyang tea industry, centering on the goal of creating "the first county of ecological green tea in Zhejiang" and "the distribution center of green tea in China". Efforts should be made to implement the four major strategies of "invigorating tea through science and technology, leading tea, market and culture" to promote the development of tea industrialization in an all-round way. Through years of unremitting efforts, Songyang tea industry is growing day by day, rising as a new force in the fierce market competition, winning the general praise of the industry. In 2009, the total output of tea in Songyang County is expected to reach 8460 tons, with an output value of 484 million yuan; the trading volume of the tea market in southern Zhejiang will reach 35000 tons, with a trading volume of 1.2 billion yuan. The tea industry has become the leading industry of agriculture and the pillar industry of increasing farmers' income in the county, and it has also become the golden business card of the county's external image. At this annual meeting of tea industry economy, Zhejiang Zhen Tonghong Tea Industry Co., Ltd. in Songyang County was also awarded the title of "Top 100 Enterprises in China's Tea Industry".
