Guangdong: realizing Agricultural Modernization in the Pearl River Delta within 10 years

Recently, the Department of Agriculture of Guangdong Province has formulated and issued the "implementation Plan for accelerating the Development of Modern Agriculture in the Pearl River Delta" (hereinafter referred to as "the Plan"), which puts forward the goal of taking the lead in realizing agricultural modernization in the Pearl River Delta by 2020. Therefore, the agricultural layout planning of the Pearl River Delta needs to be reformulated. The "Plan" points out that the overall goal of speeding up the development of modern agriculture in the Pearl River Delta is to achieve high income for farmers. the comprehensive evaluation index system of modern agriculture is composed of 11 quantitative indicators, such as agricultural standardization, operation mechanization, service socialization, scientific management, ecological well-being and urban-rural integration. Before 2020, the development level index of agricultural modernization in the Pearl River Delta region will reach more than 90 points. It is understood that the goal will be achieved in two stages: the first stage: before 2012, the self-sufficiency rate of major agricultural products such as grain, vegetables, pork and other major agricultural products will increase steadily, a modern agricultural industrial system will be basically formed, and farmers will be more well-off. The average annual growth rate of per capita net income of rural residents reached 7.5%. The second stage: before 2020, we will take the lead in realizing agricultural modernization in the country, and the per capita net income of rural residents will grow at an average annual rate of 9.1%.

According to the "plan", the Pearl River Delta region will focus on six major projects: the state-level modern agricultural park project, the high-quality rice industry project, the fresh agricultural products planting and breeding base project, the superior horticultural industry belt project, the agricultural product quality and safety supervision system project, and the Guangdong-Taiwan agricultural cooperation platform project.
