Iran's "Economic Daily" reported on November 15 that the deputy minister of commerce of Iran told the media that according to article 44 of the 2009 budget law, in order to protect domestic production, the import of domestic goods can also be banned. The Ministry of Commerce proposes to raise the import tariff on olives to 90%.

The deputy minister said that Iran has an olive planting area of 110000 hectares, with an annual output of 60, 000 tons, with a small number of exports.

He said that Iran consumes 170 grams of olives per capita, while Greece, Spain and Italy consume 27 kilograms, 14 kilograms and 12 kilograms of olives respectively.
