Last Updated: 2024/11/05, Due to the dry weather, Argentina's wheat production will decline sharply.

According to Argentina's Bahia Blanca food exchange, wheat production in Buenos Aires, Argentina's largest wheat-producing region, will drop by 70% this year due to dry weather and a plague of locusts.

The southern state of Buenos Aires will produce less than 10 per cent of the country's wheat this year, compared with about 30 per cent in a typical year.

The exchange estimates that the sown area of wheat in Argentina this year will be 2.8 million hectares, the lowest level in history, because of the dry weather and the government's unfavorable wheat export policy, which restricts the enthusiasm of farmers.

The government of the Argentine state of Buenos Aires said on November 12 that wheat farmers were required to prepare for the locust plague.

Argentine wheat is mainly grown in the south. The wheat harvest began in October and lasted until January.
