Indonesia is expected to raise rice support prices by 10%.
Indonesia will raise rice support prices by 10% to slow the rise in fertilizer prices, according to Indonesian officials. As the government will slash fertiliser subsidies next year, fertiliser prices are likely to rise by about 40%. Edy Putra Irawadi, deputy director of Indonesia's Ministry of Trade and Economic Coordination, said urea prices will rise the most, estimated to be as high as 50%, as the government will cut fertilizer subsidies to 11.3 trillion rupiah in 2010 from 17.5 trillion rupiah this year. Indonesian Agriculture Minister Suswono said that in order to offset the rise in fertilizer prices, the state-owned logistics agency Bulog will raise the rice purchase price from 4400 rupiah / kg to 4840 rupiah / kg. This will help small rice farmers continue to profit.
