Last Updated: 2024/11/06, The Indian government says it has no plans to import wheat on a large scale.

India's cabinet minister said on Monday that domestic wheat stocks are abundant and the government has no plans to import wheat.

India's wheat production reached a record 80.58 million tons in 2008-09, while the Indian government's wheat stocks stood at 26.8 million tons as of November 1.

The Indian government will not import wheat right away, but private flour processors in the south have begun to import wheat in small quantities because of rising domestic prices.
