Last Updated: 2024/11/06, USDA downgrades Mexican Maize yield data for 2009 / 10.

According to the latest counsellor's report released by the United States Department of Agriculture, Mexican corn production data fell in 2009 due to a lower harvest area than previously expected.

The report expects Mexican corn production in 2009 to be 22.3 million tons, down from an earlier forecast of 23 million tons. As a result, the figure for Mexican corn imports in 2009 was revised up to 9.7 million tons.

Corn production fell sharply in the spring and summer of 2009 due to dry weather, which led to a decline in harvest area, the report said. Preliminary data show that of the 6.6 million hectares of corn crops, up to 1.25 million hectares of corn crops have been affected by drought.
