According to the latest report released by the United States Department of Agriculture, the 2009 Canadian wheat yield forecast for the year 2009Universe has been revised down by 500000 tons to 24 million tons, due to a reduction of 100000 acres in acreage and a reduction in yield per unit area.

The temperature in the wheat producing area rose sharply in September, setting an all-time high, but after October, the temperature dropped suddenly, and the weather was very cold and rainy. This has led to problems with the wheat harvest in some areas, particularly in Saskatchewan, which accounts for about 48 per cent of the country's wheat.

Statewide, 10% of the wheat in Saskatchewan has not yet been harvested, but as of November 4, 20 to 40% of the wheat has not been harvested in the central and northern parts of the state. There is too much rain in this area, and the muddy farmland has affected the wheat harvest.
