Last Updated: 2024/11/08, Diouf urges the Group of eight to implement agricultural assistance as soon as possible.

Director-General of the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) Diouf said at the headquarters in Rome on the 16th that the Group of eight (G-8) needs to implement its agricultural aid commitments made at the L'Aquila summit.

Diouf said at the World Food Security Summit that the Group of eight issued a joint declaration on global food security at the L'Aquila summit in July this year, promising to provide 20 billion US dollars in agricultural aid to developing countries in the next three years. This is an "encouraging signal" to the world. But so far, "commitment is still just a commitment", and specific funds are still needed to implement it. He stressed that there is a particular need for funding for agricultural infrastructure and equipment, as the northern hemisphere is about to enter the sowing season in March next year.

The World Summit on Food Security issued a joint declaration on the same day, saying that it would strive to achieve the hunger eradication goals set by the United Nations Millennium Development goals, and stressed the importance of developed countries fulfilling their official development assistance commitments.
