This winter, Wuchang rice farmers encountered the worst difficulty in selling grain in many years, in sharp contrast to the scene of rice being robbed by grain giants in 2009.

It is understood that this year, the performance of the four major grain merchants (Oriental Group, Cofco, Yihai, and Beidahuang Group) in Wuchang was extremely mediocre. Those who signed orders at the beginning of the year were slow to purchase, while those without order constraints were almost confiscated.

According to relevant sources, rice prices were badly speculated in 2009, and the highest purchase price of Wuchang rice reached more than 2 yuan per jin, and many people in the industrial chain became speculators, which was also transmitted to the downstream farmers. Farmers with grain in their hands began to sell or even hoard, and producers became speculators. Before the four major grain merchants were stationed in Wuchang, Wuchang rice did not worry about selling. After their arrival, with strong financial strength, rice prices were fried to an all-time high, and capital had a great impact on the market.

According to the analysis of experts, there are several reasons for the current situation: one is that farmers' expectations are too high to cherish sales. The unprecedented increase in rice prices in 2009 has led to excessive expectations of rice prices by farmers this year. Second, at present, the price of Wuchang high-quality rice Huaxiang rice is about 1.8 yuan / jin, and the cost price of Wuchang rice is about 4.2 yuan / jin according to this price. if this price of rice is not supported by brand image, it is very difficult for consumers to accept it. therefore, more than 190 rice processing enterprises in Wuchang are difficult to accept, while these rice merchants, such as COFCO, which have the strength and brand support, do not accept it. To this end, the government should step up publicity efforts to help farmers analyze and master market price adjustment, and at the same time give enterprises some preferential policies to encourage enterprises to collect grain.
