On May 9, in the mulberry garden of Jiaomei Village, an old town in pingguo County, Guangxi, a silkworm farmer picked mulberry leaves and prepared to transport them home to raise silkworms.

In recent years, Guangxi has listed the silkworm industry as one of the emerging agricultural industries focusing on accelerating development, with mulberry area and cocoon output ranking first in the country year after year. In 2010, the cocoon output in Guangxi reached 214300 tons, accounting for 1/3 of the national total. Planting mulberry and sericulture has led 832000 farmers to shake off poverty and become rich, with farmers earning nearly 6.7 billion yuan from cocoon sales.
