In 2010, Gan Qidong suffered "serious" damage from Fushou snail in his rice field. There are as many as 20 longevity snails in a paddy field of one square meter during the peak period. Artificial hunting and killing

According to the person in charge of the snail control operation, at present, Pengshan County mainly adopts the method of "three prevention and control, one control" to completely kill the snail: use 25% molluscicidal ethanolamine salt wettable powder for chemical control; in the peak spawning period of Fushu snail in spring and autumn, artificial control is carried out by picking eggs and picking up snail; centralized regulation is carried out in the breeding place of Fushu snail in winter to cut off the source.

At the same time, the relevant departments also mobilized the masses to carry out manual hunting, organizing the vast number of farmers to go deep into the fields to pick up egg blocks, young snails and adult snails manually in Xiejia, Pengxi, Jiangkou and other villages and towns where the occurrence of longevity snails is relatively heavy, and take them out of the field for rolling, burning, or deep burial with lime treatment.

Biological control

"We also raise ducks in rice fields to kill snails." Gan Qidong told reporters that under the guidance of the county agricultural bureau, they also developed the technology of co-cultivation of rice and duck. Judging from the current effect, biological control has achieved remarkable results.

Technicians from the county agricultural bureau instructed farmers to set up a purse seine every 3 murs of 5 mu of rice fields after transplanting green rice, and release 20 ducks per mu at a rate of 15 Mu until the ducks were harvested after the rice seeds were scattered. Through the duck running and foraging in the field, the snail can be effectively prevented and controlled.
