There are 90 species of flowers and trees belonging to the same genus as Magnolia, about 30 species are distributed in China, and more than 10 species are commonly cultivated. The main ones are:

(1)Purple Magnolia. Also known as Mulan, wooden pen, magnolia. Large deciduous shrub. Flowers first and leaves later, flowers dark purple. Bud long spindle shape, long 10-15 cm, also like the brush head, it is also known as wooden pen.

(6)Magnolia grandiflora. It is an evergreen tree of subtropical origin. Leaves leathery, glossy, elliptic or ovate-elliptic. The flowers bloom from April to June. It is widely cultivated south of the Yellow River. Especially in Guangdong most, for large shade trees and street trees.
