Last Updated: 2024/11/06, The yield of rice varieties in Yunnan is nearly 1000 kg per mu.

Recently, a domestic report on the average 100-mu yield of Yunnan rice "Chujing 28" is nearly 1,000 kg, far exceeding Yuan Longping's "Y Liangyou 2" yield of 926.6 kg per mu. Yesterday, Li Kaibin, the breeder of "Chujing 28" and an expert in rice breeding at the Institute of Agricultural Sciences in Chuxiong Prefecture, Yunnan Province, confirmed to reporters that it is a fact that "Chujing 28" has a yield of nearly 1,000 kilograms per mu. However, it is pointed out that "Chujing 28" is a new conventional japonica rice variety bred by conventional cross breeding, while Yuan Longping's "Y Liangyou 2" is a hybrid indica rice variety bred by two-line method, and the two are not comparable.

It is understood that "Chujing 28" is a new conventional japonica rice variety bred by crossing "Chujing 26" as female parent and 96Y-6 as male parent. It has been proved by many years of trial and planting that the yield of this variety is generally on the high side in Yunnan, especially in Midu County of the province, the average yield per mu has exceeded 950kg for three consecutive years, and even reached 1002.11 kg in 2010.

According to Li Kaibin, Chujing 28 belongs to conventional japonica rice, while Yuan Longping's super rice belongs to indica hybrid rice. They are two different types of rice. There are great differences between them in morphological characteristics, physiological functions and cultivation methods.

Li Kaibin said that Chujing 28 is more suitable for planting in japonica rice areas with elevations of 1500 to 1850 meters in Yunnan, Sichuan, Guizhou and other places. However, the variety of "hybrid indica rice" is more suitable for planting in low altitude indica rice areas.
