Investigation on the Development of Fish Industry in Wuchang, Ezhou City

Wuchang fish is a rare freshwater fish species unique to Ezhou, Hubei Province, which has high economic value and broad market prospects. A generation of great man Mao Zedong drank Changsha water and ate the famous words of Wuchang fish, which made Wuchang fish famous at home and abroad. In 2009, the State Administration for Industry and Commerce identified Wuchang fish in Liangzi Lake as a geographical indication of origin and inserted wings for Wuchang fish jumping dragon gate. As early as 1992, the Ministry of Agriculture approved Ezhou as a national Wuchang fish breeding farm, which was officially licensed in 2004, which injected power into the development of Wuchang fish industry. After years of efforts, the Wuchang fish brand has gained a certain popularity at home and abroad, and the industry has developed to a certain scale, which plays an important role in improving farmers' income and expanding the popularity of Ezhou.

The present situation and main problems of Fish Industry in Wuchang

Based on the investigation conducted by the investigation team of Ezhou Municipal Party School in the autumn of 2011, the present situation and main problems in the development of fish industry in Wuchang, Ezhou can be summarized as follows: having the ability, it is difficult to give full force; there are conditions, but they are not used effectively; there are advantages, but they are not brought into full play; there is a market, and there is a lack of development means. In order to reflect the situation intuitively from a full perspective, we mainly state from the upstream, middle and lower reaches of the Wuchang fish industry. The upstream mainly includes R & D capability, intellectual property rights, technical standards, brand marketing and so on, while the middle reaches mainly includes original breeding, production and processing, market expansion and other links. The downstream mainly includes information services, training and consultation, after-sales service, product promotion and other aspects.

(1) upstream

Ezhou has the advantages of intellectual property rights, technical standards and cutting-edge scientific research of Wuchang fish origin, especially the potential advantage and great value of geographical indications of Wuchang fish origin.

1. Research and development. In 1992, Ezhou was designated as the national Wuchang fish original breeding farm by the Ministry of Agriculture, and was officially licensed in 2004. The state and the province have been providing financial and technical support. Ezhou Wuchang fish farm experts and scientific and technological personnel have cooperated closely with experts from China Agricultural University, Huazhong Agricultural University, Wuhan Institute of Aquatic Sciences and other scientific research institutes with remarkable results. It was reviewed in 2009, and among all 40 indicators, 39 were excellent and 1 was qualified, which was rated as a national excellent national original seed farm by the Ministry of Agriculture. Through cooperation and efforts, Wuchang Fish original breeding Farm in Ezhou has become the most ideal and effective pilot test place for experts to carry out applied research, providing strong support and technical guarantee for the protection and development of Wuchang fish original species. At the same time, experts inside and outside the city are carrying out research on the development of excellent species of Wuchang fish in order to improve the species quality and economic and social benefits of Wuchang fish.

2. Intellectual property rights. In 2009, Wuchang fish was recognized as a geographical indication of origin by the State Administration for Industry and Commerce. Being able to be recognized as a geographical indication means that this product meets the requirements of green environmental protection. Therefore, geographical indications contain great economic and social value.

3. Technical standards. The state has issued Wuchang fish technical standards, and most of the parameters of these technical standards are based on the data provided by Ezhou. Therefore, these technical standards are still in Ezhou for the time being. According to the current practice of promoting Wuchang fish, from breeding to breeding, as well as production and processing, are basically the implementation of the standards provided by the original Wuchang fish farm in the city.

4. Brand marketing. At present, Wuchang fish products occupy a place in the domestic market and have a certain market popularity because of their unique texture and taste. Wuchang fish culture has been promoted to more than 30 provinces, cities and regions across the country and has successfully gone abroad. Settled in Mexico, Japan and other nearly 20 countries. Wuchang fish has become a beautiful business card for Ezhou's foreign exchanges.

The main problems: the hardware facilities for scientific research are still difficult to meet the actual needs; the development and utilization of Wuchang fish geographical indications is far from enough; the promotion of Wuchang fish at home and abroad is still in its infancy. The importance and demand of technical standards are not very obvious; the marketing concept needs to be updated urgently.

(2) Mid-stream

We mainly refer to the breeding, production and processing in Ezhou.

1. Breeding. The water surface that can be raised in the city has reached 608600 mu, with Wuchang fish original seed farm as the radiation center. 100000 mu of intensive culture ponds are planned and built: Donggou 10-mile Pearl Corridor, Dushan 10 km Aquatic Corridor, Sanshan intensive Culture Plate, Miaoling 10 km Special Aquatic Corridor and other major areas, which have reached a considerable breeding scale and can produce nearly 300000 tons of commercial fish every year.
