The cultivation of bergamot in Lianshan County is concentrated in the town of Xiao Sanjiang. In recent years, through measures such as hiring agricultural technicians and setting up cooperatives to connect with the market, it has changed the situation of low prices and unsalable in the past, driving more than 300 farmers to plant more than 3000 mu of bergamot and increasing their per capita income by nearly 20, 000 yuan.

Five cents a jin is still unsalable.

Lianshan has made great efforts to support the development of characteristic agriculture in recent years, and organic rice, Shatian pomelo and big fleshy ginger are famous in the province. As a "rising star", bergamot fruit has only been developed in recent years.

Xiaosanjiang town is rich in land and good in ecology, so it is suitable for the development of planting industry. The earliest people to plant bergamot were Dengyang and Liulian villagers. Since the 1990s, several villagers have planted more than 10 mu of bergamot. However, due to the blocking of market information, open bergamot only sells 5 cents a jin, it is still difficult to open the market.

Later, the price of bergamot rose slowly, and there were more villagers planting bergamot. After large-scale expansion, many villagers encountered technical problems. In 2005, villager Li Ming planted nearly 20 mu. Due to the lack of cold prevention measures, more than half of the bergamot died after a frost, leaving him wiped out.

There are also some villagers because of poor management, the bergamot planted either suffered from diseases and insect pests, or blossomed and failed to bear fruit, and the harvest was poor, so that the confidence that the villagers had just gained rest again. As follows, Huang Yugui, a villager in Baiyin, did not dare to try again after planting for a year. He replanted traditional crops, earning several thousand yuan a year and living on the poverty line.

Two mu of bergamot earned 80,000 yuan.

"as long as the quality is guaranteed and connected to the market, the profit of growing bergamot is very high." Li Jingrui, a cadre of Dengyang Village, told reporters that in order to ensure that villagers get rich by planting bergamot, the village committee decided to set up a professional cooperative for bergamot planting of the Dengyang Village Committee, which will be responsible for planting seedlings, fertilizers, pesticides, and a complete set of services such as technical guidance, publicity and sales, so as to guide and serve the cultivation of bergamot in the whole village.

In order to drive villagers to plant, Li Jingrui planted 27 mu in 2006 and is now worth nearly 1 million yuan, and its exemplary role has enhanced villagers' confidence; in order to solve technical problems, cooperatives employ city and county agricultural technicians as technical instructors for bergamot planting; in order to smooth sales in the docking market, cooperative personnel actively negotiate with major pharmaceutical companies in Yulin, Guangxi and the Pearl River Delta.

Such a multi-pronged approach, coupled with the increasing demand for bergamot in the traditional Chinese medicine market in recent years, has led to a turnaround in the bergamot industry in Lianshan, and planting bergamot has become an important channel for villagers to get rich.

At last year's Canton Fair, Lianshan bergamot sold for 11 yuan per jin, making a large number of growers make a lot of money. Huang Yugui, 47, planted 10 mu of bergamot in 2007. Last year, he had two mu of hanging fruit, with an output of more than 20, 000 jin and a net profit of more than 200000 yuan. The price this year is lower than that of last year, but the purchase price is also more than NT $5. "excluding costs, you can earn more than NT $80,000 this year." Huang Yu-Kui admits that he has never thought about the amount he has earned in the past two years.

Today, the planting of Lianshan bergamot has grown from several original households to more than 60 households, and the area has grown from less than 100 mu to more than 3000 mu, increasing the per capita income of more than 300 farmers by nearly 20, 000 yuan.
