Xuan en pursues the "4450" pig breeding model

On June 13, the reporter saw in the pig pen of Tan Shishao and Tan Shigang, a large pig farmer in Zhi Yao Ping Village, Wanzhai Township, Xuanen County, that they were organizing manpower to level the biological fermentation in the pig pen. By using biological fermentation technology to raise pigs, they achieved 1 million yuan in pig sales in the first five months of this year, with an average annual reduction of 390kg of pig manure and 4 tons of sewage pollution, showing economic and ecological benefits.

"Farmers raise commercial pigs on a large scale to improve the efficiency of large-scale farming, replacing the thought of small-scale peasant economy that raising pigs for the Spring Festival in the past." Tan Shigang told reporters. The successful exploration and implementation of the "4450-year Plan" pig raising model in Xuanen County reflects the fundamental change in the concept and way of raising pigs. According to the person in charge of the Xuanen County Animal Husbandry Bureau, the implementation of the "4450" pig breeding model has replaced the traditional and backward pig farming methods with low efficiency and serious pollution in the past, realized large-scale pollution-free pig farming in the county, and improved pork quality.

Farmers in Xuanen County raise pigs in the traditional way, resulting in a large number of feces and sewage pollution from pigs has been difficult to deal with, restricting the growth of the pig industry. In order to solve this problem, as early as the second half of 2008, Xuanen County organized a special class to the original seed farm in Hubei Province to investigate the new technology of raising pigs in biological fermentation beds, and in April of the following year, it was the first to launch the "4450" pig-raising model in the whole state, that is, to support each farmer to build a 40-square-meter biological fermentation bed, raise 4 fertile sows, and produce 50 pigs a year. In order to promote this pig farming model, the county has formulated a "4450" pig standardized scale breeding plan and implementation guidelines, and proposed that during the "12th five-year Plan" period, the county will develop a "4450" pig raising model of 10, 000 households, with 500000 pigs per year, plus other scattered farmers, with an annual production of more than 600000 pigs. At that time, the Xuanen County Animal Husbandry Bureau and the Zhushan Town Government organized 100 households to carry out the "4450" model of pig breeding in three villages of Zhushan Town, namely, Xianjiaba, Ganxi and Fengkouba. To this end, the state's "4450" pig breeding site meeting was held in Xuanen to promote the typical experience of Xuanen County.

In recent years, Xuanen County has promoted the "4450" pig breeding model throughout the county on a pilot basis. In order to solve the shortage of funds for farmers to raise pigs, the county party committee and county government integrated the funds for poverty alleviation and development of the whole village, the funds for the construction of key villages in the old revolutionary base areas, the funds for the special development of animal husbandry, the funds for the popularization and demonstration of agricultural technology at the grass-roots level, and the funds for the overall planning of villages and townships. For every completed household, 2500 to 6000 yuan was given to the project, with a cumulative subsidy of more than 5 million yuan in the past three years.

Xuanen County pays attention to the technical guidance and popularization of the construction of "4450" model households, including site selection, construction process, production and management of bedding materials, and the use of biological starter, build a successful household, strengthen follow-up services, and improve the service life of bedding materials. At present, 29 professional cooperatives for pig farming have been set up throughout the county to improve the degree of organization of farmers raising pigs. Zhushan Town Mengjiawan Pig breeding Professional Cooperative and Xuanen County win-win farming Cooperative, based on their large-scale farms, establish cooperative relations with surrounding "4450" mode farmers to jointly face the market, purchase veterinary drugs and feed together, and sell pigs uniformly, thus reducing costs and improving efficiency. According to reports, the "4450" pig raising model in Xuanen County has many advantages: relatively less investment, easy feeding and management, suitable for moderate scale breeding in mountainous areas, and reducing pig epidemic risk and market risk. Often when pig prices rise, farmers raise pigs in a rush, and farmers suffer heavy losses when prices fall. The "4450" model is self-propagating and self-supporting, the cost is relatively low, the number of breeding per batch is small, and the loss is small when the price of pigs falls. The "4450" model adopts the new technology of biological fermentation bed to raise pigs, which has obvious advantages such as saving feed, water and manpower, improving pig disease resistance, improving pork quality, increasing breeding efficiency, environmental protection and no pollution. Leaders of the Planning Department of the Ministry of Agriculture, the Provincial Agriculture Department and the Provincial Animal Husbandry Bureau fully affirmed the implementation of the "4450" pig breeding model in Xuanen County after on-the-spot investigation. It is considered that the "4450" pig raising model is a suitable choice for the development of ecological pig industry in mountainous and rural areas at the present stage.

The "4450" pig raising model highlights the comprehensive benefits of economy, society and ecology. As of May this year, 1727 "4450" pig farmers were supported in the county, 176600 pigs were fenced out, and the net income of pig farmers increased by 8.33 million yuan. From January to May this year alone, the county produced 43000 pigs, and pig farmers increased their net income by 2.03 million yuan.
