Leeches, commonly known as "leeches", are in great demand because they contain anticoagulant substances (hirudin) that can prevent fibrinogen from clotting in the blood. As the perennial climatic environment of Shidian County is extremely suitable for the growth and reproduction of leeches, Shidian County has included farmers' breeding of Shidian leeches as a project for farmers to get rich, adopting the operating mechanism of "company + base + farmers + deep processing". And the standardized breeding technology is provided by Yunnan Hairuidi Biopharmaceutical Company. Farmers can produce more than 200 kilograms of leeches per mu every year, calculated at the current market price of about 100 yuan. It can bring economic benefits of about 20000 yuan to 30000 yuan to farmers.

At present, Shidian County, which realizes large-scale breeding, can produce about 10 tons of leech freeze-dried powder per year, achieving a direct benefit of 72 million yuan. 50 leech farmers can embark on the road of getting rid of poverty and becoming rich.
