Culture of characteristic cold water fish in high quality waters in Gansu Province

Gansu Province is rich in cold water resources. The spring water gathered by snow water in Qilian Mountain has an annual dynamic storage capacity of 1 billion cubic meters. Liujiaxia Reservoir on the main stream of the Yellow River has a total area of 160000 mu, which is very suitable for the growth and reproduction of cold water fish. And cold-water fish such as golden trout and rainbow trout require that the water quality must be pure, clear and pollution-free. The new species of golden trout and the technology of cage culture of triploid rainbow trout independently developed by the provincial fishery technology promotion station have developed salmon and trout culture on a large scale in the Hexi Corridor and the Yellow River basin, forming an industrial belt of cold water fish with plateau characteristics. Last year, the province's salmon and trout output continued to rank first in the country, with a total output of about 2000 tons, including 75 tons of rainbow trout and golden trout produced in cages.

Last year, Gansu Province also increased the introduction of aquatic seedlings, expanded the coverage of improved cold-water fish in the province, and adjusted and optimized the structure of aquaculture species. 4.54 million black carp, grass carp, silver carp and black carp fry of bighead carp were transferred from Hubei and other places; 11.2 million famous and high-quality varieties such as water hibiscus carp crucian carp and Fu Rui carp were introduced to supply farmers in the province; and famous and high-quality new species such as blunt snout bream No. 1 in Pujiang were introduced to carry out culture in Baiyin and other freshwater fish demonstration counties.

Gansu Province has raised the culture level of characteristic cold-water fish, increased fishery infrastructure in Liujiaxia Modern Fisheries Park, transformed, strengthened, and cleared the ponds, and replaced all cage facilities with high-standard metal structure cages, equipped with fishing vessels, automatic bait feeding machines, camera monitoring and other equipment, improving the level of modern aquaculture. At the same time, expand the technology of large-scale cage culture. The cage culture of cold water fish in Liujiaxia Reservoir, Gannan Prefecture, Tianshui, Longnan, Jiuquan and other places has developed rapidly, only the cage of Liujiaxia Reservoir has increased by 100 mu. Last year, the aquaculture surface dominated by cold-water fisheries in the province reached 184000 mu, and the output of aquatic products reached 13800 tons, an increase of 3.8 percent over the previous year.
