Ou Yizhong and His Dream of Organic Agriculture Kingdom

Ou Yizhong, a majestic middle-aged Li man and chairman of Hainan Baoting Zhonghai Hi-Tech Agricultural Development Co., Ltd., is intertwined with too many surprises. He dug up the first bucket of gold in his life by selling chemical fertilizers and pesticides, but he was infatuated with the breeding and cultivation of organic melons and vegetables. He has a master's degree in business administration from Tsinghua University, but he is driving his villagers to shake off poverty and become rich. He has a comfortable life and a familiar circle of friends in the provincial capital, but he goes into the mountains to become a poor vegetable farmer.

Ten years ago, ou Yizhong set up Hainan Haolun Pesticide Technology Co., Ltd. in Haikou, Hainan Province, and became a well-known agricultural material dealer on the island, specializing in chemical fertilizers and pesticides. In November 2004, Haolun Agricultural Section was awarded as "Advanced Rural Advanced Unit of Hainan Province" by Hainan Provincial Government, and he was awarded the title of "Advanced Rural Advanced individual of Hainan Province". With the increase of state support for "agriculture, rural areas and farmers", Hainan has gradually become an important destination for the people of the whole country, such as vegetable basket, fruit plate and vacation and leisure because of its unique geographical location and natural environment. In the long-term agricultural management, ou Yizhong often thinks about a question: Hainan Island has a fresh and clean air environment all the year round, how can we achieve the organic unity of environmental protection and agricultural production, and provide safer and healthier green food to tourists? Ou Yizhong, who grew up in Li District, never forgot the taste of melons and vegetables grown in the mountains when he was young, so he set his sights on organic melons and vegetables. In September 2008, he returned to Shiling District, Baoting County with 5 million yuan of funds accumulated from his distribution of agricultural materials, and registered and established Zhonghai Hi-Tech Agricultural Development Co., Ltd.

Baoting is located in the southern inland of Hainan, at the southern foot of Wuzhishan, with 56.2% of the Li nationality and 40% of the Miao nationality. The whole territory has a long summer and no winter, the land is fertile, the rainfall is abundant, and the sunshine and coconut forest constitute a beautiful scenery of the south. Ou Yizhong chose to put the organic melon and vegetable base in Shiling, which has three considerations: the northeast of Shiling is Diaoluoshan, one of the most rare and primitive tropical rain forest areas in China, and the southeast is Qixianling, the largest hot spring tourist area in Hainan. The Shiling River in the upper reaches of the Lingshui River, the fourth largest river in Hainan, flows through the upper reaches of the Lingshui River, which originates from the Qifeng rainforest between Mount Diaoluo and Qixianling. He has lived here since he was a child and knows how to speak Li dialect. It is not only easy to communicate with the Li people and return to his hometown to develop agriculture, but also a reward to the villagers in his hometown.

Over the past two years, he has built an adjustable greenhouse of 5 mu of organic melons and vegetables in Shiling, 5 mu of steel structure greenhouse, 40 mu of open field demonstration fields, with an annual output of 600 tons of organic vegetables and 5 million seedlings, which can be planted by farmers. Hainan took the lead in passing the organic certification recognized by the national authoritative certification organization-Beijing Wuyue Huaxia Management and Technology Center, and successively produced 1500 tons of high-grade melons and vegetables and obtained two organic fertilizer patents. 215 excellent melon and vegetable varieties at home and abroad were introduced, and 32 local wild vegetable varieties were excavated. There are only a few cents in the ordinary pumpkin market. The organic pumpkins here are sold for 20 yuan each, while the virgin fruit market costs one yuan per jin, and the organic virgin fruit here can sell for 10 yuan per jin. The Shiling base has brought real changes to local farmers. People of the neighboring Li nationality help at the base and earn 50 yuan a day. More importantly, the base has changed the traditional concept of farmers and mastered the technology of growing melons and vegetables without chemical fertilizers and pesticides. On January 17, 2009, the Baoting county government awarded the title of Zhonghai Hi-Tech Integrity Investment Enterprise, and ou Yizhong also won the honor of excellent investor.

Hainan is the only province in the country that implements unregulated animal epidemic areas within the province. It is an ideal production and supply base for green, safe and healthy agricultural and livestock products, and it is also a health island and longevity island that has attracted worldwide attention. With the construction of Hainan international tourism island rising to the national strategic level, it is high time to develop organic agriculture. Not long ago, the Hainan Organic Agriculture Association, led by the Hainan Provincial supply and Marketing Cooperation Association, was officially established. Including the vast majority of organic agricultural enterprises and individuals in the province, including 38 unit members and 16 individual members. The large-scale sales platform of organic products built by the association goes directly to the major supermarkets, high-end communities and hotels in the province. Ou Yizhong is keenly aware that he is weak in the production of organic melons and vegetables alone, and should join hands with other organic agricultural enterprises to create a brand of organic melons and fruits in Hainan. He actively participated in the call of supply and marketing cooperatives to form an organic agriculture association, and sold melons and vegetables to the whole island and inland provinces with the help of the association's sales platform. In winter and this spring, when some ordinary melons and vegetables in Hainan encountered difficulties in sales, organic melons and vegetables became in short supply with the sudden increase in the number of tourists to the island, bringing more confidence to his villagers to develop organic melons and vegetables to drive his villagers to get rich.

When it comes to the sales of organic melons and vegetables, ou Yizhong said with confidence that at present, there are 259 star hotels in Hainan, of which 20 are five star hotels. Within 5 years, the number of five-star international hotels will reach more than 60. In Sanya area alone, 25 standard resort hotels above five stars have been opened, and 23 hotels with five stars or super five stars are under construction. Looking south from Qixianling in Baoting County, Haitang Bay, clear Water Bay, Xiangshui Bay and other bays on the east coast of Hainan Island, Kempinski, Langhao, Sofitel, Conrad, Yilin Hilton, Filmon, Grand Hyatt, Sheraton, Deluxe Select, Shangri-La, Renaissance and other world-famous hotels are paying close attention to the layout. Hainan has become the area with the densest number of international high-end hotels. Under the background of the construction of international tourism island, many world-famous hotels have settled in Hainan, the number of cutting-edge tourists at home and abroad is increasing, and people's pursuit of food safety, all of which bring broad space for the development of organic food industry.

In the rich and festive atmosphere of the Spring Festival, ou Yizhong described his dream of organic agriculture: based on Shiling, adopting the management model of the company's ten professional cooperatives and ten farmers, and radiating the whole territory of Baoting, it plans to develop to a scale of 10,000 mu in 5-8 years, with a total output of 100000 tons, increasing the output value by 200 million yuan, and driving Baoting farmers to cooperate in the production of organic melons and vegetables.
