Last year, President Xi Jinping visited Cuba and presented Moringa seeds as a gift to Cuban revolutionary leader Fidel Castro. For a time, Sophora oleifera became famous overnight with the title "national ceremony". With curiosity about Moringa oleifera, yesterday, the reporter came to Yingzi Farmers planting Professional Cooperative Moringo planting Base in Zhongyuanguan Village, Shiliang Township, Pengan County.

Walking into the Moringa oleifera planting base, neat rows of Moringa oleifera trees are swaying in the wind, making it hard to imagine that this land was a barren mountain overgrown with weeds two years ago. All this is attributed to a migrant worker named Yang Renwei who returned home to start a business.

Contract barren mountains to plant trees

Yang Renwei is an out-and-out farmer who went out to work in 1993 and worked as a construction worker and car washer. In 2012, he resolutely returned to the countryside and embarked on the road of starting a business.

Yang Renwei's choice is not at a loss. In recent years, in order to make barren mountains benefit, Pengan County has issued a series of measures to encourage farmers to contract barren mountains and develop agriculture. After hearing the news, Yang Renwei was very happy. A large amount of land in Zhongyuanguan Village, Shiliang Township, was uncultivated, which was a good entrepreneurial resource. Yang Renwei decided to contract barren mountains to plant trees, which can improve the ecological environment on the one hand and make the family rich on the other.

During the Spring Festival in 2012, Yang Renwei returned to his hometown with a dream. Contract barren mountains, manage land, buy seedlings, hire people to plant …... In a year, Poplar Reed contracted 500 mu of barren mountains and planted more than 40,000 poplar, walnut, sweet-scented osmanthus and Toon trees on the mountain. In 2014, he founded the Yingzi Farmers' planting Professional Cooperative.

In the process of starting a business, the county forestry bureau organized agricultural technicians to provide technical guidance for Yang Renwei free of charge to help him formulate development plans.

Try to plant "magic tree" Moringa

In September 2014, a report entitled "the Magic Tree takes root in Pengan" attracted the attention of Yang Renwei. It is reported that the technician of the county association of science and technology succeeded in planting Moringa oleifera. Yang Renwei, who often likes to watch agricultural news, heard about the spicy wood called the "magic tree" a long time ago. After reading the report, Yang Renwei was very excited. It was originally thought that Moringa oleifera was only suitable for growing in tropical semi-arid areas, but I did not expect that Moringa could be planted successfully in Pengan. So Yang Renwei came to the county forestry bureau for help. After learning about his idea, the leaders of the county forestry bureau were very supportive and specially bought Moringa oleifera seeds for him and arranged for agricultural technicians to carry out follow-up services.

As a newly introduced tree species, how to plant it? Can it succeed? Yang Renwei was at a loss. In this process, Yang Renwei especially thanked one person, that is, Wang Wang, an agricultural technician from the county forestry bureau.

Wang Wang said that Moringa oleifera is a newly introduced tree species in the county. Although it has been planted successfully, it has not been planted on a large scale, and the lack of planting experience can only be tested slowly. After buying Moringa oleifera seeds, she put thousands of Moringa oleifera seeds on the desk in her office, selected them one by one, and then bred them separately. Yang Ren Reed was planted according to the guidance of Wang Wang. Observe the growth of seeds every day and inform Wang Wang by phone.

One day in April this year, Yang Renwei went to the nursery of Moringa oleifera as usual to inspect the growth of Moringa oleifera seedlings, and suddenly found that there were a lot of bugs growing on them. This made Yang Renwei so anxious that he immediately informed Wang Wang of the situation. Wang Wang was at a loss in such a situation. Because Moringa oleifera is an edible "nutritious tree", pesticides cannot be used to kill insects. In the end, the two men adopted the most primitive method of catching insects by hand, and it took two weeks to solve the problem.

Equal emphasis on ecological and economic benefits

The reporter saw that many Moringa oleifera trees were cut off in the planting base of Yang Ren Reed. Yang Renwei said that the Moringa oleifera planted in early April had been harvested for the first time at the end of August. According to reports, when Moringa grows to nearly two meters high, the upper part can be cut off for processing and sales. As long as the lower part is left about 70 centimeters, it can continue to grow. Another round of harvest can be carried out in about four months.

Speaking of the daily management of Moringa oleifera, Yang Renwei said that Moringa oleifera is covered with treasures, but it is not "delicate" at all and does not require a lot of effort to take care of it. Yang Renwei's main work is fertilizing and weeding. During the harvest, just ask more than 10 villagers to help. At present, the first batch of Moringa oleifera planted by Yang Ren Reed has gone through many processes and has been processed into products such as Moringa oleifera tea, Moringa oleifera wine and spicy wood noodles.

Yang Renwei told reporters that in the long run, the economic and ecological benefits of planting Moringa oleifera are inestimable. His wish is to reclaim more barren mountains and plant "magic trees". When the environment gets better, leisure tourism can also be developed.
