Raising earthworms in the mountains of Tujia and Han in Enshi for 17 years, three-dimensional agriculture helps the people to increase their income

Tan Jiabing's earthworm breeding base
On the 19th, in Lijiaping Tujia Village, Wachangba Village, Baiguo Township, Enshi City, several villagers were busy spreading black mud mixed with pig manure on the soil belt and putting earthworms into wisps. This is the earthworm breeding base newly built by Enshi Farmer Earthworm breeding Professional Cooperative.
Raising earthworms can also make money.
"this year, the earthworms I raised earned nearly 400000 yuan, of which the most sold more than 1,000 jin at a time. In June, a customer in Dazhou, Sichuan Province asked to raise 10,000 jin at a time, but our current breeding scale is not enough to meet the customer's requirements, so we have lost this order of more than 200,000, "Tan Jiabing, the boss of the base, told me with regret.
When it comes to earthworm breeding, Tan Jiabing looks extremely excited. He says that every little earthworm that has changed from flesh to gold has condensed a lot of painstaking efforts of him. From seed purchase to breeding to listing and sale, he has done everything himself. He has fully compensated the hardships of starting a business, and also felt the joy of success.
Tan Jiabing, a native of Shawan in Wuyang Office of Enshi City, has been raising earthworms since 1998. Tan Jiabing, who had just turned 22 at that time, was introduced that raising earthworms was a good way to make money. Because the work of raising earthworms was dirty and bitter, no one wanted to work in the industry at that time.
But Tan Jiabing just wants to break through the world. After consulting with his family, Tan Jiabing went to Hebei alone with the 3000 yuan he had collected to study, acquired 500 jin of "Daping No.2" earthworm species, and wholeheartedly started his earthworm breeding industry for 17 years.
"at the beginning, due to lack of experience and lack of understanding of the living habits of earthworms, all the earthworms put in the fields the next day ran without a trace. Not only did they not make money, but even the cost of buying earthworm species was wasted." at that time, Tan Jiabing felt that he was not the material to start a business at all and wanted to give up breeding and going out to work. After several days of fierce ideological struggle, he decided that he could not give up halfway. We should find out the reason for the failure.
"later, by looking through the materials, I asked the experts to know that earthworms have the characteristics of being warm and wet, shade and light. When they are exposed to light at night, they will obediently drill into the soil and will not show up and run around. After mastering these basic characteristics, I went to Hebei again and purchased 8 mu of earthworm species at one time. Later, in the process of breeding, management was much easier. Introduced by Tan Jiabing.
As to how to manage well, Tan Jiabing said: "the field operation of breeding is not as simple as I imagined. One year, I was looking for a partner in Shengjiaba to develop earthworms. Because I was far away from home, I usually handed over the specific management to him. One night it was going to rain heavily. I informed the other party to cover the earthworm ridges with film paper. I was afraid to drive to check at 1: 00 in the morning. Sure enough, I failed to deal with them in time. All the earthworm ridges were washed away, and a small oversight cost me tens of thousands of yuan. "
In the second half of 2014, Tan Jiabing once again faced the difficult dilemma of whether to do it or not. With the accelerated pace of urbanization in Enshi, most of the land in Shawan was requisitioned by the government. He lost the land for raising earthworms and did not have the opportunity to raise small earthworms for more than half a year. But this did not stop Tan Jiabing's enthusiasm for breeding.
Breeding earthworms requires a large amount of pig and cow manure as a source of nourishment, and choosing a good place is the first element. At the end of 2014, Tan Jiabing traveled everywhere and targeted the Baiguo Township Longtanba Village near Lijiaping Tujia Village, where the Enshi Siler Group Pig Farm is located. There are both wet and warm environmental conditions suitable for earthworm reproduction and growth, and abundant sources of pig manure. It is an ideal place for earthworm breeding. After repeated negotiations with Wachangba Village, Tan Jiabing finally has the stage to develop his favorite earthworm breeding.
You increase your income and I develop.
"my family's 3 mu of land mainly grows rice and bao Gu, and when the year is good, the annual income is only 4,000 to 5,000 yuan. This year, the rice line is relatively heavy, and the total income is less than 3,000 yuan. Since the farmers' cooperative settled here, I have been working in it for a long time. I can earn 80 yuan a day. To say that the income of raising earthworms is much better than that of growing other crops, I plan to raise one mu of earthworms next year and set up the whole co-operative to earn some money." Wang Xiqiong, a villager who is carrying pig manure for the soil in the shed, told me.
It is reported that there are five or six people like Wang Xiqiong who have been working on the base for a long time, and there are about a dozen people when they are busiest. The villagers who work here have earned more than 10,000 yuan this year. It is understood that many villagers see a good prospect of raising earthworms and have said that they will set aside some land to develop earthworm farming in the coming year.
"when the technology and market are mature, I will bring the villagers to gradually expand the breeding area." Tan Jiabing said that it is very good that the villagers are willing to develop the earthworm breeding industry with themselves. on the one hand, the scale of earthworm breeding has been expanded in the region. in terms of quantity, it can meet the needs of some major customers in the market, which is conducive to the in-depth development and industrialization of enterprises. Second, the villagers have made money by raising earthworms, have higher enthusiasm and confidence, do not have to go out to work, gather strength to help the development of local industries, and form a win-win situation.
Strengthen the entity and extend the industrial chain
It is understood that cooperatives have invested 500000 yuan to build an earthworm breeding base of 22 mu and develop 15 members. At present, cooperatives are on the track of efficient operation.
"all the high-quality varieties of 'Taiping No.2' are used on the base. This variety is made from the cross between the Japanese flower earthworm and the American red earthworm. It has strong adaptability, high reproduction rate, and is suitable for high-density artificial breeding. The average yield per mu can reach 1500 kilograms. At present, the highest price on the market is 20 yuan per jin, the average price is about 15 yuan, and the income per mu can exceed 40, 000 yuan." Tan Jiabing happily said.
At present, the cooperative has stable high-quality customer resources inside and outside Wuhan, Sichuan, Guizhou and other provinces, with a total annual sales volume of 40 tons and a sales income of 600000 yuan. in order to make full use of land resources and improve the comprehensive utilization rate of land, the cooperative also cooperated deeply with Lichuan Tuanbao Farm Medicinal Materials Co., Ltd. to develop the cultivation of medicinal Trichosanthes on the earthworm breeding base. All its Trichosanthes products were acquired by Nong'an Pharmaceutical Company by agreement, which not only increased the raw material source market of the medicine company, but also made effective use of high-quality organic earthworm manure fertilizer, opened up a new way for cooperatives to reduce production costs and increase economic income, and built an efficient three-dimensional agriculture of pig manure → earthworm → Trichosanthes.
Now, Tan Jiabing also has a long-term idea: on the one hand, drive surrounding farmers to join the earthworm farming industry, expand the scale of earthworm farming, and strive to reach 100 mu of earthworm farming area in 2016; on the other hand, make full use of the organic fertilizer formed in the process of earthworm breeding to grow vegetables such as oil, wheat and vegetables, build organic vegetable bases at the same time, maximize land utilization, and extend the industrial chain.
