Rizhao "post-90s" raise grasshoppers earn 500000 a year and make the villagers rich.
It is said that the post-autumn grasshopper can jump for less than a few days, but in the 200 breeding sheds of Zuo Rongfu, a post-90s boy in Anzhuang Town, Rizhao, Shandong Province, the grasshoppers are jumping happily. From raising rookies to experts, from fighting alone to setting up cooperatives, this "grasshopper king" now earns 500000 yuan a year, driving more than 80 villagers to become rich.
In 2006, 15-year-old Zuo Rongfu went to work in Qingdao. Three years later, one day in 2009, Zuo Rongfu and his clients went to a special restaurant for dinner. When ordering, a dish called "Fei Sheng Teng Da" attracted everyone's attention. When the dish was served, Zuo Rongfu found out that the dish was a grasshopper.
Through understanding, Zuo Rongfu believes that the grasshopper farming industry is very promising, and has produced a strong interest. Two months later, Zuo Rongfu gave up his job earning more than 100,000 yuan a year and returned to his hometown to raise the East Asian migratory locust (a species of locusts).
He bought a book about grasshopper farming on the Internet, but for this young man who did not graduate from junior high school, he could not understand it in many places. In a hurry, a bold idea popped into his mind: go to the author of the book for advice. He saw from the book that the author of the book was Professor Liu Yusheng of Shandong Agricultural University, so he drove to Tai'an alone for advice. In the face of this studious young man, Professor Liu was quite moved and told everything he knew.
By 2010, Zuo Rongfu's grasshopper greenhouse had grown to 66, with considerable benefits. In 2013, he founded the grasshopper farming cooperative, which provided free technology to villagers and promised to recycle grasshoppers to ease farmers' worries. Today, more than 80 villagers have joined the cooperative. In addition to the local villagers, there are farmers from Qingdao, Henan, Hebei and other places to join.
