It is drizzling in Shanghai in autumn. Wang Lina, dressed in indigo overalls, is carefully observing the breeding of lentils in the greenhouse of the Shanghai Red Gangqing lentil Cooperative.

Five years ago, Wang Lina, a graduate of Fudan University, made a decision that surprised everyone-to resign from a "high-end" bank and return to her hometown to grow green lentils with her father in the fields. Five years later, the 29-year-old young party member of Pudong in Shanghai has handed over a satisfactory answer in the face of public doubts. She led 4180 cooperative members and more than 10, 000 farmers to grow high-quality green lentils with an annual output value of more than 300 million yuan. The market share of green lentils in Shanghai is as high as 97%!

The cooperative is currently introducing the efficient rotation of green lentils and rice, a project of the Shanghai Municipal Commission of Agriculture. For the members of cooperatives, this model can not only protect the economy and grain, but also improve the soil environment. Wang Lina is inspecting rice cultivation in the cooperative.

"I am now a new type of professional farmer and a second-generation farmer.'" There was pride in Wang Lina's tone of self-introduction. Five years ago, many people around her did not understand her choice.

Wang Lina discussed the breeding of lentils with the members.

Wang Lina's parents are farmers born and raised in Pudong, Shanghai. When she was young, when her parents were busy, Wang Lina sat in the field, watching her parents work. When she was older, she used her summer vacation to participate in the acquisition of lentils and so on. At that time, at six o'clock every morning, Wang Lina ran to the head of the village with a scale to set up a spot to help her parents run the market. In 2004, she also took the lead in the establishment of the Shanghai Red Gangqing lentil production Co-operative and served as its chairman. Over the years, Wang Lina has a special affection for farmland and lentils. After graduating from college, although she entered the bank with a stable and decent job and a good salary, she always cared about her parents who were busy in the fields. In July 2010, she worked as party branch secretary and general manager of the Shanghai Honggang Green lentil production Cooperative, formally taking over the important task from her father Wang Honggang-leading the members of the cooperative and farmers to start a new lentil business.

Wang Lina is concerned about the detection of pesticide residues in cooperative lentils.

After returning to her hometown, Wang Lina became busier than when she was in the bank. Choose seeds, plant experimental plots, buy environmentally friendly pesticides, buy green lentils, discuss with the scientific research team on the cultivation of new varieties, and deal with many of the daily work of cooperatives. The post-85 young man is so busy that he is busy buying lentils from six o'clock in the morning until late at night, not to mention dressing up and going shopping and watching movies. "there is not even time to fall in love." Wang Lina recalled.

Wang Lina also has strict requirements on food safety: once agricultural residues are found to be unqualified, they will implement a "one-vote veto" on the farmer and will no longer buy their green lentils. This stringent requirement also makes cooperative members and farmers pay more attention to food safety issues to ensure the quality of green lentils.

In her new job, young Wang Lina encountered many problems, one of which was to deal with farmers. Almost all the farmers in the cooperative watched her grow up, and their relationship was relatively harmonious. This is of great help to Wang Lina's work. She also affectionately called them "eldest uncle and aunt (Shanghainese: aunt)". In the process of purchasing lentils, the purchase price often fluctuates due to natural disasters, unmarketable agricultural products and other reasons, and the income of farmers is also affected. "Big Uncle and Mama" will also ask her angrily, "Why did the price drop so much at once?" Are you deducting our farmers' hard-earned money? " Sometimes they even say mean things to each other. This made Wang Lina at a loss. At this time, a sentence from her father enlightened her-"the so-called people have a hundred personalities and should think about others and think more from their point of view."

Wang Lina inspected the quality of green lentils packaged in gift boxes in the cooperative.

In recent years, Wang Lina has taken the initiative to contact scientific research institutions to select varieties of lentils from existing cooperatives. Now, she has established a long-term cooperative relationship with Shanghai Jiaotong University and District Agricultural Technology extension Center to cross and test 19 varieties of green lentils. The new "Honggang third generation" green lentil variety cultivated in 2013 has significantly improved in disease resistance and commerciality, the yield has increased by 7.38% compared with the "second generation" variety, and the economic benefit has increased by 1383 yuan / mu. In 2014, for example, the total planting area of green lentils in cooperatives reached 23000 mu, with a total output of 80500 tons and a total output value of 373 million yuan, the highest in history. The income of farmers is also increasing year by year, and some of them have a net income of more than 200,000 yuan a year. This made Wang Lina look at it and be happy in her heart: "Hello, everyone, is really good."

The honor won by the cooperative and Wang Lina.

In recent years, the development of cooperatives is getting better and better. The green lentils produced by cooperatives are tasty and thick, and are welcomed by the majority of consumers. But Wang Lina is not satisfied with the status quo. She, who majored in marketing at Fudan University, came up with a new idea-to build her own brand and gain popularity. As a result, she contacted the media in Shanghai to promote and publicize "Honggang" green lentils. In a short period of two years, the brand suddenly gained popularity and was rated as a famous brand product in Shanghai and a famous trademark in Shanghai. Cooperatives also took this opportunity to broaden the sales channels of the market. At present, the market share of green lentils in cooperatives is as high as 97% in Shanghai, and more than 70% in eastern China. As a result, cooperatives have won the titles of National Farmers' Professional Cooperative demonstration Society and Shanghai Farmers' Professional Cooperative pacesetter Society. Wang Lina herself has also won many awards-- the national leader of rural youth getting rich, the national harvest award for agriculture, animal husbandry and fishery, and the pacesetter of the "March 8" red flag bearer in Shanghai, and so on. In 2012, as a highly educated and young female grass-roots representative engaged in agricultural production, she was elected as a deputy to the 14th Shanghai Municipal people's Congress, as a deputy to the 11th National Women's Congress of China in 2013, and as a part-time vice president of the Pudong New area Women's Federation in 2014.

In the face of many honors, Wang Lina said: "this is an affirmation of my past." Now, this post-85 girl who loves to laugh has many golden "ideas"-not only to make deep-processed products such as dried green lentils and green lentils in sauce, but also to be a WeChat businessman to push the co-operative's lentil products to the whole country and to the wider stage. She wants to lead her fellow villagers to the broad road of agricultural prosperity. At the same time, she also hopes that more skilled and knowledgeable urban youth can, like her, take root in farmland, join the new agriculture, and play a greater role on the stage of urban modern agriculture.
