Last Updated: 2024/09/19, The female professor of Haida took off her cheongsam to raise chickens and ducks in Chengmai to make the villagers rich scientifically.

In the second half of 2014, Chengmai Fish and Duck mixed Culture Professional Cooperative and Hainan University applied for the special fund for the integration of industry, university and research in Hainan Province to build a new ecological breeding model project of "insect-fish-duck-vegetable" on the basis of original fish-duck mixed culture.

Cheng Mai Yongfa's aquaculture expert Huang Guangren is also the leader of the mixed culture model of fish and duck.

The "insect-fish-duck-vegetable" planting base is located in Xinwu area, Yongfa Town, Chengmai County.

Put on the cheongsam and stand on the three-foot podium. She is a dignified and elegant university professor. She rolled up her trouser legs, put on a straw hat and stepped into the pond chicken coop. She was transformed into an authentic farmer. Her name is Zhang Baoqin, an associate professor of entomology in the School of Environment and Plant Protection, Hainan University, and a PhD in entomology in the Institute of Entomology, School of Agronomy, Zhejiang University. She is also a "farmer" with a simple agricultural dream.

In the mid-1990s, Zhang Baoqin, who lives in a small mountain village in Fuzhou, Fujian Province, chose to study plant protection at the former South China Tropical Agricultural University (now incorporated into Hainan University) after the college entrance examination. Because he was born in the countryside, Zhang Baoqin has always had a special natural emotion for agriculture and farmers. "from the bottom of my heart, I have always had a dream, that is, to use what I have learned to return to agriculture and help farmers get rich and benefit. This is also the promise I made in my heart when I took the oath to join the Party in university."

Last year, when Zhang Baoqin accidentally learned that more than 4000 farmers engaged in mixed fish and duck farming in Xinwu area, Yongfa Town, Chengmai County, a demonstration site of mixed fish and duck farming in Hainan Province, fell into a bottleneck in the development of the breeding industry, she resolutely decided to join the ranks and bow down to the countryside to provide technical guidance for farmers' farming, and was determined to lead everyone to a healthy and green way of breeding to become rich.

Where is the technology? The demonstration site of mixed culture of fish and duck fell into the bottleneck of culture.

Xinwu area, Yongfa Town, Chengmai County, adjacent to Haikou, has a beautiful ecological environment, sufficient water resources and many mountain ponds, which is suitable for breeding. Twenty years ago, Huang Guangren, a local farmer, ended his career as a migrant worker and returned to his hometown to do farming. After hard groping, he led more than 4000 local villagers out of a breeding way with mixed culture of fish and ducks as the main mode. Farmers raise ducks on the surface of their mountain ponds and use the droppings discharged by ducks to raise all kinds of fish under water. Over the past 10 years, this culture model has developed at an annual growth rate of 10% to 15%. It has become a bright spot in the structural adjustment of Yongfa Xinwu area and the largest demonstration base for mixed culture of fish and ducks in the province.

At present, the number of farmers in Xinwu area alone has reached 1250, the water surface is more than 10050 mu, the annual output of ducks is more than 10 million, more than 4500 people are engaged in breeding, the total output value of fish and ducks is 320 million, and the net profit is more than 40 million yuan. Fish products mainly provide processing plants, processed and exported to Europe and the United States and other countries, duck products are mainly sold to all parts of the province and Guangdong, Guangxi and other places. After promotion, the mode of mixed culture of fish and duck has radiated many surrounding cities and counties.

"We got rich because of farming, but we also encountered a lot of troubles." Huang Kuang-ren, head of the Cheng Mai Jifeng Fish and Duck Co-operative Society, frankly said that in recent years, the feed and labor costs of farming have been increasing, the profit margins of farmers are getting smaller and smaller, and ordinary people are paying more and more attention to the safety on the dinner table. the quality of the products also needs to be improved. "at present, the purchase price of ducks has been maintained at 4 or 5 yuan per jin, and the average annual income of farmers is 45, 000 yuan, so it is very difficult to increase the scale and income." Huang Guangren said that people are urgently looking forward to improving the farming model, expanding the scale, improving food safety standards and getting out of the bottleneck through technological upgrading. "We are also worried and distressed about the eutrophication of aquaculture water bodies and the deterioration of the aquaculture environment." Huang Guangren said.

It is reasonable for farmers to change the status quo by relying on science and technology. Where is "technology"? Huang Guangren and local farmers once sought cooperation with breeding enterprises, hoping that by reducing feed feeding and using less drugs, they would not only reduce costs, but also improve the meat quality of fish and ducks, but they all gave up because of immature technology. "We are thinking that the professors in the university are 'science and technology'. The professors can explain clearly on the stage, they can do it on the ground, and they can help us prescribe a good prescription." Huang Guangren said that everyone's wish is to increase their annual income by another 20,000 yuan.

In this way, through many searches, Zhang Baoqin became the person who led everyone out of the breeding bottleneck in the hearts of local farmers. Because of her major and long-standing dream of agriculture in her heart, Zhang Baoqin gladly accepted the help of the farmers.

The female professor took the baton: take off the cheongsam, put on the straw hat, transport faeces and insects for breeding.

Limited profit margins, poor farming environment, food safety problems, lack of scientific research capacity. After an on-the-spot investigation, Zhang Baoqin wrote down the problems faced by farmers in the research book. In order to really help farmers, she did research, looked for materials, went to government departments, and began to seek a new ecological planting and breeding model.

In the second half of 2014, Chengmai Fish and Duck mixed Culture Professional Cooperative and Hainan University applied for the special fund for the integration of industry, university and research in Hainan Province to add new ecological factors on the basis of the original fish and duck mixed culture. to build a new "insect-fish-duck-vegetable" compound ecological breeding model project. "Animal manure and waste are used to produce high-quality insect protein, together with whole grains to feed chickens and ducks, grow vegetables on the surface of the water and improve the water body." To this end, Zhang Baoqin changed his cheongsam, put on his overalls and put on a straw hat, and first led everyone to bring animal droppings to raise insects. "at that time, everyone thought it was incredible. Huang Guangren said that local growers were skeptical about what the professor was doing.

In order to let farmers see the difference between the new and old culture models, Zhang Baoqin divided the culture area in the 22 mu experimental culture base, putting in 30, 000 fish fry, raising 2000 chickens and 2000 ducks, half of which were fed with ordinary feed according to the traditional culture model, and half were fed with coarse grains and insect protein. "feces raise insects, turn waste into treasure, and feed chickens and ducks mixed with whole grains. Bugs contain high protein and antimicrobial peptides. Chickens and ducks are not easy to get sick and do not need medicine." In the breeding base, Zhang Baoqin is skillfully doing farm work while observing the growth of chickens and ducks. In order to improve the aquaculture water body, Zhang Baoqin led everyone to start growing vegetables on the water surface. "vegetables can be sold or fed to chickens and ducks, and the food produced is green and healthy." Zhang Baoqin said.

Walking in the "insect-fish-duck-vegetable" compound ecological breeding base, the reporter can hardly smell the stench of chicken and duck droppings. "I added microbial agents to the breeding base, which can deodorize and ferment and improve the resistance of chickens and ducks." Zhang Baoqin said that with the technical means, in fact, many breeding problems can be solved, but also can increase the overall efficiency. "turn waste into treasure, raise high-quality and cheap insects as feed, reduce feed by 5% to 15%, improve disease resistance of chickens, ducks and fish, reduce the use of antibiotics, and increase income by growing vegetables on water." Zhang Baoqin said that through this new planting and breeding model, we can not only produce high-quality green food, but also increase farmers' income, maximizing the comprehensive benefits of the food chain.

Fulfill the promise of joining the Party: make use of what you have learned to lead farmers to become rich and create soil and water.
