Shiwan Village, Dongqiao Town, Zhongxiang City, Jingmen City, Hubei Province is located in a remote hilly area with inconvenient transportation and is a famous poor village. There are more than 200 farmers in the village, most of them go out to work to earn money. Since 2006, Hu Xiangping, the branch secretary of Shiwan Village, Dongqiao Town, Zhongxiang City, has led the villagers to raise chickens, so that many poor families in the village have cast off their "poverty caps" and embarked on the road to prosperity.

On the afternoon of November 13, a reporter from Jingmen Evening News and his party drove to Shiwan Village. At the Luyuan Livestock and Poultry breeding Professional Cooperative not far from the village, they saw Hu Xiangping, who was checking the growth of laying hens in the warm room.

Hu Xiangping, 44, has been engaged in family farming since the age of 18. At first, he asked local experienced pig farmers for advice on pig-raising skills, and did not want to be repeatedly shut out. In a fit of anger, he went to Xinhua Bookstore and spent 200 yuan to buy a number of books on family breeding and began self-study at home. Three years later, he basically mastered the skills of raising pigs and chickens, and explored a set of breeding experience. Now he often teaches the farming techniques to the villagers in the form of training courses. In the 26 years of farming, there has been almost no plague in his pigs and chickens, which is the main reason why he has chosen to work in this industry for so many years. In 2003, he specially set up the Luyuan Livestock and Poultry breeding Cooperative in Zhongxiang City, which absorbed more than 200 members of local pig, fish and chicken farmers throughout several surrounding villages and led the villagers to become rich. In 2006, due to the high risk of raising pigs, Hu Xiangping began to focus on raising chickens. At the beginning, he bought 7000 red-shell laying hens from other places and made a net profit of 7000 yuan that year. As the village is located in the hilly area, suitable for raising chickens, so he bought white-feathered broilers and began to breed them. The chicken is in short supply in the market because of its tender meat and good taste. Last year, Hu Xiangping raised 50, 000 layers and earned 500000 yuan at the end of the year. Under his leadership, 94 of the 200 households in the village are raising chickens, and more than 100,000 chickens are raised in the village. Due to the good market last year, most of the chicken farmers in the village made a profit of 500000 yuan and as little as 20, 000 yuan. In the past two years, the villagers who worked outside the village have returned to their hometown to join the cooperative to raise chickens with Hu Xiangping. By the end of last year, more than half of the families in the village had bought cars, and many poor families had been lifted out of poverty and their living standards had been greatly improved.

At the beginning of last year, Hu Xiangping learned through market investigation that the laying rate of laying hens hatched by a poultry company in Ningxia was high, the disease resistance was good, and the death and elimination rate was low, so he bought 11000 hens and came back for breeding. Through a year of breeding and sales, although the chicken seedling is 1 yuan more expensive than other laying hens, but according to the sales situation, each chicken can earn 4 yuan more. This year, 53000 such laying hens have been introduced into the village.

Through years of network accumulation, Hu Xiangping has seized the market with good reputation and high-quality varieties, and the cooperative has established long-term cooperative relations with businessmen in surrounding Shayang, Jingshan, Yicheng and other places, and there is no shortage of sales for villagers' laying hens and eggs. At present, Hu Xiangping and the cooperative's eggs and layers to be eliminated every year have almost been booked by the merchants.

When it comes to the future development of the layer industry, Hu Xiangping is full of confidence. "next, the village will guide more villagers to raise chickens and get rich," he said. At the same time, Camellia oleifera trees are planted in the wasteland such as Shashi Tian in the village to fundamentally solve the problem of insufficient supply of free-range chicken forests. In terms of sales, in the future, we will create our own brands and register trademarks for self-produced laying hens and eggs, and expand sales through online sales.
