Wang Yong (left) and the members of the exclusive club loaded the purple yam into the car and prepared to sell it outside.

Wang Yong, 29, is a villager of Nanmu Village, Liuqiao Town, Dongxing District. In 2002, after attending a technical secondary school, he went to work in Zhuhai, Guangdong. Subsequently, he worked as an air conditioner assembler and bricklayer in Zhuhai, Shenzhen, Guangzhou and other places, sold stewed vegetables and also engaged in the seafood business.

By chance, Wang Yong learned about other people's successful cases of planting purple yam. Upon inquiry, he learned that purple yam has much higher nutritional value than ordinary yam and can be used to cook all kinds of delicacies, and there is almost no one in Neijiang to grow purple yam on a large scale, so the market potential is great. With the dream of building his hometown, in July 2014, Wang Yong, who had been drifting for more than 10 years, returned to Nanmu Village and began to plan his rural "dream of becoming rich."

In the same month, he went to Chengdu, Mianyang, Fujian and other places to inspect the purple yam project with Zheng Yonghua, a like-minded fellow-villager who had worked in Zhuhai. After more than two months of investigation, they learned the planting technology of purple yam, and finally selected the planting variety-- Taiwan Red Dragon Ziyu Huai Mountain.

In April this year, Wang Yong and Zheng Yonghua transferred more than 70 mu of barren mountains in Nanmu Village and began to open up their own "road to wealth" on the barren mountains. In August of the same year, Wang Yong set up a special club to lead 35 surrounding villagers to plant Ziyu Huai Mountain. He not only provided seeds and technology to the members who joined the club, but also was responsible for the acquisition of purple yam. In addition, on the basis of receiving the land transfer fee, the villagers who transfer out of the land can also go to Wang Yong's field to help work and earn money. With the "backbone" of getting rich and the support of industry, the poor mountain village suddenly became "alive".

In late November, more than 70 mu of purple yam had a bumper harvest! More than 4000 jin of purple yam can be harvested per mu, with a wholesale price of 60.8 yuan per jin and a retail price of 100.12 yuan. In order to open up the market, Wang Yong made purple yam into all kinds of exquisite cakes and farm dishes for everyone to taste. At present, purple yam is mainly sold to Chengdu, Chongqing and other places according to the order. Due to a large number of orders, purple yam is in short supply. The output value is expected to reach more than 1.8 million yuan, with a profit of more than 1.3 million yuan.

"Roots of purple yam are my treasures. I didn't expect such a good harvest in the first year. I opened a 'road to wealth' on the barren mountain!" As a technical secondary school student, Wang Yong's diligence and friendliness won him the trust of the villagers and opened up a road to industrial prosperity in a poor mountain village.
