And harvest agricultural production base

Walking into Huangdu Village and Shengshou Agricultural production Base in Nanxin Township, Nanchang County, most of the vegetable fields with a total area of more than 500 mu are not green. The reporter walked into the vegetable field and found that part of the ridge was covered with a layer of yellow straw. When he opened it, he saw groups of red earthworms wriggling below.

As a leading enterprise in agricultural industrialization with vegetable cultivation as its main business, why is it that vegetables are grown in a bumper harvest, but large tracts of land are left desolate, and even earthworms are raised? Xu Yunshan, the person in charge of the company, told the reporter why.

Xu Yunshan, a native of Huangdu Village, Nanxin Township, returned to his hometown in 2011 to register Nanchang County and Shengsheng Agriculture Co., Ltd., to grow vegetables. Xu Yunshan wants to take a way to grow pollution-free vegetables without the use of chemical fertilizers or pesticides. For this reason, in the selection of vegetable varieties, he tried to avoid insect-prone varieties such as cowpeas and green vegetables, but chose disease-resistant vegetable varieties such as garlic, leek and celery, using organic fertilizer and biological pest control technology.

Vegetables grown without chemical fertilizers and pesticides are not only safe, but also taste good. Because of this, the vegetables harvested in Shenzhen Agricultural products Center Wholesale Market and major supermarkets in the city sell well all the way, and the vegetable base area has expanded from 35 mu at first to 510 mu now.

The enterprise itself has developed, and at the same time, the farmers have become rich. Supposedly, the companies that are on the right track and the harvest company should rest easy next, but in 2014, Xu Yunshan had new troubles. He found that the vegetables grown in the vegetable fields were getting worse and worse, and the taste was gradually declining. After testing the soil, it was found that trace elements such as selenium and boron gradually decreased, while heavy metals such as copper, iron and zinc were getting higher and higher. After consulting a professor at Jiangxi Agricultural University, Xu Yunshan realized that it had something to do with the habit of using fertilizer. In recent years, in order to solve the problems of low purity and insufficient fertility of organic fertilizer in the market, and the harvest has been directly using duck manure and pig manure purchased from neighboring breeding enterprises, over time, heavy metals in livestock and poultry manure remain in the vegetable field.

"the content of heavy metals in the soil is increasing year by year, which directly threatens the quality of vegetables and disrupts all my plans." However, Xu Yunshan found a way to improve the soil from a professor at Jiangxi Agricultural University: raise earthworms and let earthworms remove heavy metals from the soil.

At the beginning of this year, Xu Yunshan decisively stopped the cultivation of vegetables in more than 300 mu of vegetable fields and began to ask technicians to cultivate earthworm seedlings. In September this year, Hesheng Harvest raised earthworms in the first batch of 30 mu of vegetable fields for only two months, and the vegetable fields have changed from a previously solidified khaki to a soft and breathable black.

In addition to improving the ecological benefits of the soil, breeding earthworms has also brought rich economic benefits to Xu Yunshan. In November this year, Xu Yunshan sold earthworms for the first time, selling more than 7000 yuan on 1.8mu of land. According to the calculation of earthworm farming eight times per mu per year, the average annual gross income per mu of earthworm farming is more than 30,000 yuan, and the net profit is more than 20,000 yuan, which is much higher than the annual profit of 7,000 to 8,000 yuan per mu of vegetables.

The profit of raising earthworms is higher than that of growing vegetables. Will you simply switch to raising earthworms and not growing vegetables in the future? Xu Yunshan said: "my original intention is to grow vegetables, and this idea will not change in the future."

The reporter learned that in the future, the harvest will adopt a rotation model of planting vegetables for three years and raising earthworms for two years, so as to thoroughly improve the soil of the vegetable base, ensure ecological benefits, and improve the quality of vegetables. "when earthworm seedlings are cultivated in March next year, all these vegetable fields, which have been barren for a year, will be covered with earthworms." Xu Yunshan said, "after completing the soil improvement, we applied for organic vegetable certification." Organic vegetables are the highest level of vegetable cultivation, with the best benefits, and it is our ultimate goal! "

At the end of the interview, Xu Yunshan told the reporter that at present, the harvest company is making plans to raise geese and ducks next year, and the droppings of geese and ducks will be used to raise earthworms, the feces of earthworms will be used to grow vegetables, and the leftovers and leaves after picking will be used to feed geese and ducks. Finally, a closed ring of planting and breeding industry was established.
