From inadvertently seeing the huge business opportunities of Hippophae rhamnoides on TV, to going to Beijing seabuckthorn Seedling Base alone to start basic technology learning, and now the establishment of Liaoning Hippophae rhamnoides Technology Co., Ltd., Tieling County Honglin Honglin professional planting cooperative, Changchun Green Source Hippophae rhamnoides Research Institute, Wang Honglin completed the transformation from a laid-off worker of PetroChina to the leader of farmers to become rich in less than a decade.

It is winter now, and the golden fruit on the seabuckthorn tree has become a beautiful landscape in the field against the background of the snow. Recalling the scene of insisting on planting seabuckthorn at that time, Wang Honglin was filled with emotion. In 2000, Wang Honglin was laid off from CNPC. "finding something to do" has always been his idea. In 2006, he accidentally saw on TV that seabuckthorn was a good project. He went to the Hippophae rhamnoides Management Center of the Ministry of Water Resources in Beijing for a detailed inspection and learned planting techniques in the seedling base. In 2008, Wang Honglin returned to Tieling and covered 38 mu of mountains in Qingshui Village, Zhonggu Town, Kaiyuan City, and began his entrepreneurial road. Due to the lack of funds at the beginning of his business, he owed a loan to plant a large area of seabuckthorn seedlings, and he once sold houses in the store to make up for loopholes. "I must stick to it. I've just paid my tuition. It is very happy to do something as a career. I want to turn the barren mountains into green. "

Hippophae rhamnoides is very suitable for growing in sandy areas and sloping northern cold areas, resistant to barren, drought and extensive management, saline-alkali land can also survive, and has the ability to improve the ecological environment. The fruits, leaves and seeds of Hippophae rhamnoides are the basic raw materials for the production of health products, medicines, food and cosmetics. In 2010, in the early days of the establishment of the professional seabuckthorn planting cooperative in Honglin, Tieling County, farmers did not understand the cultivation of seabuckthorn, so Wang Honglin found the party committee secretaries and village secretaries of various townships to mobilize and try to get the villagers to plant. The first 23 members were all over Tieling, Kangping, Faku and other places. A farmer in Dadianzi Town, Tieling County took out 100 mu of land to try to grow, and he tasted the sweetness of getting rich that year. Wang Honglin calculated that compared with planting crops such as soybeans and corn, the economic benefit of growing Hippophae rhamnoides is 4-9 times that of ordinary crops.

Today, the cooperative has 417 members, with a planting area of 4000 mu in three districts and six counties in Tieling, covering nearly 17000 mu in the three eastern provinces. At present, the company has mainly established friendly relations with two major manufacturers in Inner Mongolia and Heilongjiang, and the seabuckthorn fruits planted by its members are directly sold to the two places for deep processing.

It turns out that Hippophae rhamnoides is the summer fruit and autumn fruit, the picking period is short, it is difficult to pick, and there are some shortcomings, such as labor-consuming, time-consuming, perishable and so on. Hippophae rhamnoides harvested in winter can now be picked at the end of December and beaten with sticks, and a tree can be picked in 3-5 minutes. In order to postpone the fruit ripening period of Hippophae rhamnoides, Wang Honglin and the staff of the research institute studied the gene pairing of new varieties and successfully improved the seedlings with thick pericarp and large fruit. The leaves of Hippophae rhamnoides are also treasures, but the leaves picked will rot if they are not treated within 2 hours. Wang Honglin went to other places to learn the art of making tea and opened a small tea factory, which further increased the economic income of farmers and could produce 3 tons of tea cakes a year. This year, two seabuckthorn picking gardens in Tieling area opened to the public, attracting tourists from Dalian, Tonghua and other places to pick.

Recently, Wang Honglin received a large order for seedlings in Nong'an County, Changchun City, with a preliminary experimental plot of 800 mu of seabuckthorn planting project. Wang Honglin also tried to sell seabuckthorn in the form of e-commerce on Hui.com, and the sales situation is good.
