Chen Yuezhou, who has been breeding emus for eight years in the mountain depression of Jian Village, Xiaotao Town, Yong'an City, has made a small profit.

Chen Yuezhou is the general manager of Jianzhou Poultry Co., Ltd. He graduated from Nanjing Agricultural University in 2004 majoring in food science and engineering, and in 2007 he resigned and returned to his hometown to raise emu. Over the past eight years since starting a business, he has successively won the "pacesetter of the May 4th Youth Medal of Fujian Province" and the national leader of rural youth to get rich. He also represented Fujian in the meeting held in Beijing to celebrate the 90th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Youth League.

At present, the company raises a total of 224 adult emus. Although it is winter, emus walk and run leisurely in the farm. "emus are not afraid of the cold. Farming is extensive. They eat two meals a day, mainly herbivorous." Chen Yuezhou said.

These 224 emus are over 7 years old. 2/3 of them are female emus. A female emu lays no more than 20 eggs a year. The emu laying period is from October to April of the following year, and it is the peak in December. The farm can harvest more than 10 emu eggs every day. Since October, emu has laid more than 500 eggs, of which more than 100 have been purchased by merchants. Chen Yuezhou is mainly used to hatch the remaining more than 300 emu eggs in order to expand the scale. Since 2012, he has adopted the model of "company + base + farmers" to sell the hatched emu seedlings to farmers who are interested in farming inside and outside the province, and then recycle them for emu rough processing.

The emu egg shell is dark green, and many customers buy it to collect it. Some turn the egg shell into a work of art. Chen Yuezhou wraps the two eggs into a gift box to facilitate customers to buy. The other part is mainly supplied to the hotel, used for catering, emu egg is rich in collagen, a variety of trace elements, is a pure natural nutrition, beauty products, very popular. EMU meat is also very valuable. In 2013, Chen Yuezhou invested more than 600,000 yuan to build a slaughtering and processing workshop and a freezer. He divided emu meat into 18 varieties for sale, with emu meat costing 140 yuan a kilogram and grilled palm more than 200 yuan each. He also cooperated with a university to develop an equipment for extracting emu oil, which can be sold for more than 600 yuan per kilogram. This year, Jianzhou Company has reached the scale of processing more than 500 heads a year, and the sales price of each head can reach about 3000 yuan.
