Peng Liqiu's potato field has reached more than 120 mu.

Peng Liqiu, from Shaoyang, Hunan Province, worked hard in Xiangang Village, Boluohu Town for many years. He switched from selling agricultural materials to growing potatoes, through learning skills from teachers and exploring his own entrepreneurial success, and led the villagers to plant together. The reporter walked into Xiangang village a few days ago and interviewed his story.

An expert in planting

There is a knack for planting, but there has been no big loss for more than ten years.

When the reporter interviewed, Peng Liqiu was busy on the ground, inspecting the growth of potatoes. Some of the potatoes in other people's fields are just emerging, and some are fattening. On the other hand, the potatoes he planted had already been thick and green, dug up the shallow soil layer of the roots, and the potatoes under the ground were already the size of eggs. If it goes on like this, it will be harvested in more than 20 days.

Lao Peng's potatoes grow fast because he planted them earlier than others. The time lag of early planting is precisely Peng Liqiu's important trick to successfully seize the market and work well all the time. To be able to go on the market without me sometimes, there is no worry that it can not be sold, and the price will be much higher than when it is produced in large quantities.

"acquirers have come to ask, other people's are not so fast, only mine can be on the market before the Spring Festival, so that everyone can eat the freshest potatoes, this harvest should be no problem." Peng Liqiu carefully covered the plucked soil, and his face was filled with confidence and joy in the sight of a bumper harvest.

This winter potato went to the field early, and Peng Liqiu accidentally dodged a bullet. The late planted potatoes generally had the problem of burning seedlings and rotten seeds because of the hot weather. In serious cases, they were forced to plough and replant, and the seedlings did not emerge until now. "Hey, I really regret that I didn't listen to Lao Peng, so that I had to plough more than 30 mu of land, and the potato seeds alone lost more than 30,000 yuan." Huang Guanmin, a potato farmer in the same village, said.

People engaged in the cultivation of agricultural products are most afraid of two major risks: one is that they cannot be produced, and the other is that the products cannot be sold at a high price. Restricted by these two major factors, it is generally difficult for growers to get rid of the situation of making a profit this year and losing money next year, while Peng Liqiu has been growing potatoes in Xiangang Village for more than a decade and has achieved great loss and little profit, which is the envy of the villagers.

"it's not easy to compete with the sky and the market in agricultural production, and it's the same with growing potatoes." Peng Liqiu said that he had learned a lesson earlier, but then he learned a lesson, and over a long period of time, he fumbled and summed up some tricks, which enabled him to walk more steadily without stumbling.

In terms of production, Peng Liqiu would rather give up the near and far away and seek cheap and expensive, and directly introduce high-quality seed potatoes from Inner Mongolia to ensure the quality of the provenance. His land is full of deep ditches and high ridges, and the general drought and flood can withstand. He buys chicken manure and duck manure from the farm as the base fertilizer, using as little chemical fertilizer as possible, the fertilizer effect is long-lasting, and the quality of potatoes is also good.

In the market, he likes to disagree with others. If others sow early, he will sow later, and if others grow more, he will sow less. In addition, he does not haggle over petty interests, does business and makes friends with some major distributors, establishes a long-term and reliable cooperative relationship, and has stable sales channels.

Halfway into the industry

I went to Huidong to study as a teacher, and now I have an income of more than one million.

Peng Liqiu is a famous potato farmer, but growing potatoes is not what he does. When he came to Boluohu Town from his hometown in Shaoyang, Hunan, at first he was in the business of selling agricultural materials. Later, I felt that the industry was becoming more and more difficult, so I was forced to change my career halfway. It just so happened that a friend had 50 mu of leased land and wanted to change hands, so he took it over.

If the land is available, what can be planted? After some inspection, he found that potatoes grow in winter, the production cycle is only more than two months, can make full use of land, the planting benefit is good, and in Huidong has formed an industry, is a good project. But in Xiangang village, the atmosphere of winter planting is not strong. After the late rice is harvested, some fields rest, and most of them are green vegetables, and almost no one grows potatoes. Moreover, when he was in his hometown, Peng Liqiu only planted rice. He was also at a loss as to how to grow potatoes.

However, Peng Liqiu was sure of the prospect of growing potatoes, so he went to Tieyong Town in Huidong, which is famous for producing potatoes, and entrusted his friends to connect with them to get to know the most experienced potato growers in the area. learn about the planting experience of potatoes from them, and inquire into the sources and sales channels of potato varieties.

When he came back, he first tried to plant three or five mu of land, and summed up the experiment at the same time. Wait until the third year, the production technology is more confident, the market relationship has also been initially established, and then gradually expand the planting area. Now his potato field has reached more than 120 mu, and his annual income of growing potatoes in winter alone is more than one million yuan.

Take the lead in getting rich

Purchasing seed potatoes and fertilizers for villagers to share sales channels

Seeing that Peng Liqiu had made a fortune in growing potatoes, the villagers of Xiangang Village also began to be moved. Someone suggested to Peng Liqiu that he also wanted to grow potatoes, hoping that he could help in planting technology and sales.

At first, the villagers thought that Peng Liqiu would be worried about more potato growers and refuse them for fear that their exclusive business would be robbed. Unexpectedly, he agreed without hesitation. For some villagers who are still hesitant to plant seeds, Peng Liqiu also took the initiative to persuade them to make up their mind to work together.

For villagers who are willing to grow potatoes on their own, Peng Liqiu buys seed potatoes and fertilizers for free, and guides the operation free of charge. He also completely liberalized the sharing of the most important sales channels. He came with the acquirers he was familiar with. In addition to discussing his own business, he also took the initiative to introduce to other growers. As a result, Peng Liqiu is called "the leader" by the villagers.

After tasting the sweetness, more and more villagers followed Peng Liqiu to grow potatoes. Today, for the villagers who still stay in the village to cultivate land, almost every household chooses to grow potatoes in winter, and there are already more than a dozen households who contract land to grow potatoes, reaching more than 30 to 50 mu. The potato planting area of the whole village has expanded from dozens of mu at the beginning to more than 2000 mu.

Huang Guoliang, director of the agricultural office of the Huzhen town government, said that growing potatoes in winter has become a major feature and pillar of the agricultural industry in Xiangang village, and has begun to spread to the surrounding villages. In November 2015, Xiangang Village was selected as one of the three major winter demonstration areas in Boluo County by the agricultural department of Boluo County because of the rise of potato industry, and received key support in terms of funds and technology.

"the idea that others will take their own jobs is out of date and harms others and harms themselves." Peng Liqiu said that it is only when we work together to form a scale that we can attract larger acquirers and have the weight to speak in the market. He told reporters confidently that they are preparing to set up a professional potato cooperative to further strengthen cooperation and intend to develop into deep processing.
