Last Updated: 2024/11/06, Fengdu returnee migrant workers set up breeding farms and embarked on the road to prosperity.

Qin Xiankun, 36, is a farmer in Nanmu Village, Shuanglu Town, Fengdu County (Chongqing). He is not tall and thin. Recently, in an interview with him, the author found that he is quick in thinking, witty in words and bold in action. It turned out that he had traveled across the sea to Africa as a "foreign worker" to increase his knowledge. after returning home, he returned to his hometown to start a business and develop the breeding industry of egg pigeons and goats. last year, his annual net income reached more than 300,000 yuan.

"working abroad" has learned advanced things from abroad.

After Qin Xiankun graduated from junior high school, although he was not yet 17 years old, he, who grew up in the countryside, had a hard-working spirit, so he went out to work with the young and middle-aged people in the village. However, due to the low culture and lack of skills, we can only do some chores such as lifting ash buckets, carrying bricks and carrying cement on the construction site.

"although I am short and weak, I am not lazy. I do everything conscientiously. I never cry bitter or tired, so I am appreciated by the contractor and trusted by my fellow workers." Qin Xiankun said, but the wages of small workers are only half that of master workers, which makes him always want to change the working environment.

In 2006, through the introduction of expatriate labor agencies, Qin Xiankun followed a construction company to "work abroad" in Africa, paying for passports, medical examinations, air tickets, local accommodation and other expenses. At that time, working abroad was a distant dream for many migrant workers.

However, when this dream was really realized, Qin Xiankun was somewhat lost, because the workers who worked abroad had higher requirements in terms of culture, needed to have certain skills, and had certain requirements for foreign language proficiency. And all these are what he lacks. He can only communicate with the fellow villagers around him and still do some chores on the construction site.

"in spite of this, through my visual senses, I have broadened my horizons abroad, increased my knowledge, learned some advanced things, and updated my ideas." Qin Xiankun said.

Returning home to start a business begins with raising egg pigeons.

When Qin Xiankun returned home in 2009, did he continue to do chores on the construction site, or did he change his career? He was lost in thought.

"at that time, a friend raised laying hens at home, and the benefit was good. After I went to inspect it, I decided to go this way. Who knew that this friend strongly opposed it, but suggested that I raise egg pigeons. " Qin Xiankun said that at first he thought that his friend was afraid of having one more competitor. Later, through a comprehensive survey of the market, he found that the development of egg pigeons was indeed "money scene".

The heart is not as good as action, Qin Xiankun soon set up a farm. But after all, he was a novice and lacked experience in breeding and marketing. He decided to cross the river by feeling the stones. At first, he only introduced more than 80 pairs of egg pigeons. In addition to learning breeding techniques from books, he also went to many egg pigeon farms inside and outside the county to "learn from" theory with practice. When he saw that egg pigeons grew up and laid eggs smoothly, he was particularly happy, which was sweeter than drinking honey water.

However, it is not so easy to turn pigeon eggs into money. He first thought of the free market in the town, so he took two baskets of pigeon eggs to the street to sell. At the end of the day, he shouted himself hoarse, and only 40 or 50 of them were sold, and the price did not reach the ideal height. In the face of setbacks, he was not discouraged, but analyzed the reasons and actively looked for a breakthrough in the market.

"I suddenly woke up and realized that because of the rich nutrition and special value of pigeon eggs, the consumer group of pigeon eggs is not ordinary people, so they cannot be sold on the street like eggs." Qin Xiankun said, so he changed his strategy, door-to-door to restaurants, hotels to promote products, sincere to open the stone, and finally opened the market.

Develop a variety of aquaculture and embark on the road to prosperity

"do you know how much a pigeon egg costs nowadays?" Qin Xiankun casually picked up a small pigeon egg and saw that the author could not answer, so he shook five fingers in his left hand.

"Fifty cents." The author replied that he shook his head, "is it five yuan?" This time he nodded his head heavily. Seeing that the author was a little surprised, he smiled proudly and said, "Yes, at present, a pigeon egg is worth a jin of eggs."

Qin Xiankun said that it was after opening the market that he gradually had a buyer for his pigeon eggs, so that later supply fell short of demand. As a result, he rented two mu of land near his hometown and invested 300000 yuan to build a new farm to develop the scale of egg pigeon farming to more than 1800 pairs. But he was not satisfied. While raising egg pigeons, he also started goat breeding, transferred more than 3 mu of land around the farm, and planted forage grass using the feces produced by egg pigeons and goats, forming a green ecological cycle planting and breeding model.

The author saw that there was still a group of native chickens looking for food freely around the farm. When he was about to ask, Qin Xiankun said: "I also raised these chickens. More than 130 chickens have been sold during the Spring Festival, and there are still more than 20 left."

Qin Xiankun believes that any industry has market risks, and there is also a price distinction in the off-peak season. The reason why he develops a variety of aquaculture is to avoid risks, achieve complementary aquaculture benefits and maximize income. He said that the next step will be to gradually expand the scale of breeding according to market demand, and strive to raise 5000 pairs of egg pigeons and produce more than 200 fenced goats a year.
