A few days ago, as soon as the reporter arrived at Kou Lou Village, Lidian Town, Sheqi County, Henan Province, he heard the hubbub of people in the fields along the way from the village. Looking ahead, dozens of people were busy in the field, six or seven agricultural tricycles lined up on the ground, and a dark-faced peasant man with a thick smile was directing seven or eight people to load the car.

"the one I grow is called turmeric, and the local name is Huotou Root. It is a valuable medicinal herb. It can not only cool the blood and break the blood stasis, but also extract diosgenin. It is known as' medicinal gold'!" When it comes to turmeric, grower Kou Jincheng goes on and on.

Kou Jincheng, 46, is from Mating Town, Xichuan County. In the late 1980s, he graduated from technical secondary school and went south with a dream to work. He worked successively as an assembly line worker, security guard, mobile phone, medicine sales and so on. After running around for more than ten years, I didn't save much money. People around him said he was "not doing his job", but he didn't think so.

"it was easy to run when I was young. I went around to work and do small businesses. Everyone said that I was a duckweed on the water and could not touch the ground." Speaking of the past of "not doing his job," Kou Jincheng said sheepishly, "later, when I went to Shaanxi and Sichuan, I saw many people grow turmeric, which was used to extract diosgenin, which had already formed a scale in the local area, and the benefit was very good. So I wanted to bring it back and try it in my hometown."

In 2004, Kou Jincheng returned to his hometown and began a new journey to grow turmeric.

"Dioscorea zingiberensis is resistant to drought and afraid of flooding. on the other side of the hometown, the soil is not very suitable, the soil grows slowly, and the output does not go up. Although less than 30 mu has been planted, the income is still higher than that of wheat and corn." Although the income is not too high, Kou Jincheng persisted in planting for six or seven years, until August 2011, when he emigrated with the Danjiangkou reservoir area to Lidian Town, Sheqi County.

When he moved to a new place and started a new life, Kou Jincheng wanted to stop farming, so he went back to his old business and started a small business. But the business is not easy to do, worry not to talk about it and do not make too much money. During the Spring Festival in 2013, people from my hometown asked Kou Jincheng when they came to visit relatives: "the conditions here are so good, why not continue to grow turmeric?"

Wake up the dreamer with one word. After observation, Kou Jincheng was pleasantly surprised to find that the soil here is more suitable for growing turmeric than his hometown. "the land here is well breathable and fertile. If you plant turmeric, the output will certainly go up, and it won't take much effort to dig." In the autumn of 2013, Kou Jincheng made up his mind to continue to grow turmeric. He visited turmeric planting bases and scientific research institutes in Hubei, Sichuan, Shaanxi and other places seven times. In 2014, he raised more than 1 million yuan and planned to plant all the 200 mu of land transferred with turmeric.

Turmeric is usually harvested once every two years, and there is no benefit in the first year of planting. Over the past year, the farmers who transferred the land to Kou Jincheng have earned nearly 10,000 yuan more, and Huang Jiang is also growing gratifying under the careful management of Kou Jincheng. According to his estimation, the output per mu of land will not be less than 7000 jin, so the most conservative calculation, one mu of land can also earn 12000 yuan.

"there has been a bumper harvest of turmeric this year, and the villagers have seen it in their eyes. Many villagers have come to me and want to make a fortune with me by planting turmeric. By now, about 40 to 50 households are looking for me." Kou Jincheng said, "according to the current market situation, turmeric still has a lot of market space, and I am willing to develop and become rich together with the villagers." By the beginning of March this year, Kou Jincheng had successfully transferred 300 mu of land to expand the planting area, and more than 20 farmers had joined his planting team, with a total scale of more than 1100 mu at present.

In order to enable the newly joined masses to master the planting technology, Kou Jincheng took the time to go to institutions of higher learning and scientific research institutions in Sichuan, Shaanxi, and other places to consult experts and professors, and gave the free printing of the "classics" to everyone. With the support of the local government, Kou Jincheng signed acquisition contracts with pharmaceutical companies in Shanxi and other places, thus ensuring the sustainable development of the local turmeric industry in production, supply and marketing.
