Last Updated: 2024/09/19, A migrant worker in Hunan has returned to his hometown to farm more than 2,000 mu to become the "top grain grower".

With the introduction of preferential agricultural policies such as subsidies for food and agriculture and support for migrant workers to return home to start their own businesses, in recent years, more and more migrant farmers have returned to their hometown to do agricultural work. Luo Yuanbo, a villager of Sanhe Village, Huatang Town, Beihu District, Chenzhou, Hunan Province, is one of them. Since he returned to his hometown in 2009 to start a business, the scale of his contracted land has reached 2050 mu, making him a well-known "champion of grain cultivation".

On April 9, in a field contracted by Luo Yuanbo, the reporter saw that he, together with more than 10 farmers, was sowing grain seeds and ploughing farmland in spite of the rain. Luo Yuanbo said that this field, which is located in the hills, is the 168 mu of farmland that he contracted for the first time.

January 8, 2009 is an unusual day for Luo Yuanbo. That night, all six groups of villagers in Sanhe Village gathered to discuss the transfer of land. The villagers frowned on a piece of land far away from the village and abandoned for many years, offering a "rent-free for seven years and a discount for renewal when due".

"I think it's a great pity that no one in this field is willing to farm because there are no canals and machine roads." Luo Yuanbo, who has worked as a migrant worker for 15 years, decided to gnash his teeth and gnaw off this "hard bone" after consulting with his wife. Seeing Luo Yuanbo's great determination, the seven teams next door contracted him a piece of land with similar conditions.

In the face of the 168 acres of wasteland, Luo Yuanbo and his wife took out their savings to buy a walking tractor and ploughed the fields from morning to night. After more than two months of hard work, as soon as the rice fields were ploughed and raked flat, they had to sow seeds and transplant seedlings immediately. Looking at a large field to be ploughed, Luo Yuanbo panicked, "what should I do if I don't have the money to hire someone to plant rice seedlings?"

The local agricultural department learned of this situation and helped him buy a rice transplanter through financial subsidies at all levels according to the policy. With the rice transplanter, Luo Yuanbo's sowing efficiency has been greatly improved. During the double robbing season, the agricultural department took the initiative to contact him to support him in buying a harvester. In less than half a month, all 168mu of rice had been harvested, with a harvest of 120000 jin of grain. Coupled with the income from using agricultural machinery to help other villagers plant rice seedlings and harvest rice seedlings in their spare time, they earned nearly 200000 yuan in the first year.

After tasting the benefits of mechanization, Luo Yuanbo successively bought new machines such as rice transplanters, harvesters, and tractors. In order to deal with the problem of spraying pesticides after the contracted fields are getting wider and wider, he also bought a drone to mechanize the whole process of growing grain.

This year, Luo Yuanbo's "territory" of growing grain has continued to expand to 2050 mu, and the planting of crops has also changed from single rice to vegetables, rape and tobacco. He recruited four shareholders to build a mechanized ploughing road and improved water conservancy facilities with the help of the local government. Now, together with nearly 100 villagers hired, he is ploughing and sowing seeds in the morning and in the dark.

"with the support of the policy and the government, I will continue to expand the scale of contracting in the coming year to drive more villagers to get rich!" Luo Yuanbo is full of confidence for the future.
