Raise 400,000 yuan to plant pitaya

In 2005, Ho Kam-fai, a 24-year-old farmer's son, entered Sha Tin Police Station of Sha Tin Public Security Bureau as an auxiliary police officer. It took ten years, but he wasn't content with the status quo.

In mid-2014, a friend told He Jinhui that he had a classmate planting pitaya in Mayong Town and could introduce him to study. He Jinhui, who has been dealing with land since childhood, is no stranger to planting and is also very interested in planting. Therefore, he used holiday time to Ma Chong pitaya garden to learn fertilization, pollination, medication, pest control and other techniques.

After mastering the technology, He Jinhui plans to resign to plant dragon fruit, his idea was opposed by his parents. Bananas, sugar cane and longan are the main traditional fruits grown in Sha Tin. Although they are tropical fruits, there is no precedent for dragon fruit cultivation in Sha Tin. However, He Jinhui's idea got his wife's support,"I work in the enterprise, salary can support the family, even if lost, also regard as spending money to buy experience."

In the autumn of 2014, He Jinhui raised more than 400,000 yuan to rent a 30-mu vegetable plot near the Mingzhu intersection of Shatian Avenue, leveled it with excavators, fertilized the soil, excavated drainage ditches, drove cement piles, pulled steel bars, and did a good job in basic work. In October of that year, under the guidance of experts, he planted 18,000 red pitaya seedlings.

He Jinhui soaked in the ground and carefully took care of these fruit seedlings, whether after work or during holidays. Under his careful care, in July 2015, he harvested the first batch of pitaya, weighing more than 500 jin. This batch of pitaya, he gave all relatives, friends, colleagues taste. When relatives and friends learned that this was He Jinhui's own dragon fruit, everyone was amazed.

Declared Dongguan city demonstration family farm

In order to plant pitaya, He Jinhui's fire dragon orchard scattered hundreds of chickens, He Jinhui told reporters, Chicken can catch insects, Loose soil, Chicken manure can also give pitaya organic fertilizer. This kind of agricultural production mode similar to the traditional "mulberry fish pond" in the Pearl River Delta has well realized ecological planting and breeding. In sales, on the one hand, he attracts customers through word-of-mouth, on the other hand, he attracts new customers by means of advanced communication means such as WeChat and Weibo. Because of the good quality, He Jinhui's pitaya generally does not worry about sales, and by joining the planting cooperative, slow sales or short supply can also adjust the surplus.

He Jinhui told reporters that pitaya, which originated in Central America and was introduced into the mainland through Taiwan, is very suitable for the warm and humid climate of the Pearl River Delta. Nowadays, pitaya has become the "new favorite" of Dongguan native fruit planting industry, and the price per catty can reach 8 yuan. Compared with sugar cane, banana and other traditionally grown fruits, pitaya is not difficult to manage and has better benefits. As long as it is properly managed and there is no extreme weather, pitaya can be harvested 10 times a year. Over the past six months, he had already harvested nearly ten thousand jin. Last year's Mid-Autumn Festival harvest, harvest more than 1000 jin. Although the cost has not yet been recovered, Ho Jinhui is full of confidence.

He Jinhui is applying for a demonstration family farm in Dongguan city, hoping that more people will come to his fire dragon orchard to taste locally produced pitaya, and drive more people to embark on the road of ecological agriculture entrepreneurship and prosperity. He also plans to plant some varieties that Shatin does not have in the future, such as lotus fog, Sakya, grapes, etc., so that Shatin people can eat these fruits at their doorstep.

At present, the muddy path on the north side of He Jinhui's pitaya garden is being transformed into a wide and flat high-standard farmland tractor road, which will be more convenient from Shatian Avenue and Yanhe Road to pitaya garden, and his ecological agricultural planting road will be wider and wider.
