As soon as the Qingming Festival was over, the weather turned fine, and the fields of Gaobai Village, Gangmei Town, Yangchun City, showed a busy scene, but the villager Li Mengxi was not among them. Twenty-four years ago, Li Mengxi bent on going into the silkworm house to weave his dream. Today, sericulture is still the main theme of his life, and many villagers affectionately call him "Mr. Silkworm".

It is not difficult to find this "Mr. Silkworm" when walking into Gaoqiang village. When the reporter saw Li Mengxi, he was cutting mulberry and feeding silkworms with the workers in the silkworm room. He spent the whole morning in this silkworm room of less than 30 square meters, where he placed his 24-year painstaking efforts and dreams.

Take the lead in trying to cultivate silkworm seedlings

Li Mengxi dared to try new things from an early age and was the first young man in the village to go out to work. Li Mengxi, who is out of town, is not happy. After several twists and turns, Li Mengxi returned to his hometown and set his sights on the timber business, but he did not see any improvement.

As the saying goes, "Women are afraid of choosing the wrong man, while men are afraid of doing the wrong job." Perhaps it is this series of defeats that prove that Li Mengxi has never chosen the right profession. In 1982, the pig market was bullish, and farmers around began to raise pigs, but Li Mengxi decided that sericulture was the right thing for him to do. At first, Li Mengxi's sericulture was not large, with only a few pieces of silkworm paper and a silkworm house. The following year, Li Mengxi began to formally cultivate silkworm seedlings.

"it is more technical to cultivate silkworm seedlings than to raise silkworms, but at that time, the conditions were limited and we had to grope slowly on our own." Li Mengxi worked very hard and worked very hard on his silkworm nursery. He got up at 3 o'clock every morning to feed silkworms and didn't fall asleep until 9 pm during the busy day. In the face of difficult conditions, at first the family thought that Li Mengxi would not last long, but he did not expect that he would persist for 24 years.

It is difficult to cross the river feeling the stone.

Without guidance, Li Mengxi could only cross the river by feeling the stones. In Li Mengxi's silkworm house, the reporter heard a lot about the techniques of silkworm seedling cultivation, not only the choice of mulberry leaves and feeding time, but also the temperature, humidity, hygiene and ventilation conditions in the silkworm house.

At first, the inexperienced Li Mengxi stayed in the silkworm house every day, staring at his silkworm seedlings and constantly observing and comparing them, slowly groping for sericulture techniques. "first use a method to raise it, and in a few days we will see how it works, and if the effect is not good, we will change the method." Li Mengxi, who first tasted the cultivation of silkworm seedlings, experienced many setbacks and made many detours.

"there must be failures, but things have already failed, so it's good to learn from them." Speaking of his setbacks, Li Mengxi mentioned a failure many years ago. The mulberry trees that feed silkworms breed wild silkworms because of poor care, and the mulberry leaves with wild silkworm droppings are used by Li Mengxi in his own silkworm house. I never thought that these mulberry leaves had already been infected with bacteria because of wild silkworm droppings, and more than 70 pieces of silkworm paper in the family turned to nothing overnight.

Li Mengxi crawled from these failures and never gave up. Today, Li Mengxi's silkworm seedling cultivation scale is second to none in Yangchun and even the whole Yangjiang River, with an average annual sales of more than 2000 pieces of silkworm paper and an annual income of six figures.

Hope to drive farmers to get rich together.

In the early days of sericulture, failure after failure did not defeat Li Mengxi. On the contrary, he accumulated a lot of experience from the failure and became the "Mr. Silkworm" in the eyes of the villagers. Whenever they encounter problems, they will come to the door to consult the "Mr. Silkworm," and the enthusiastic Li Mengxi has never been stingy with his own experience.

Wu Huaquan, a silkworm farmer in Hekou Town, found that his silkworms were always smaller than others. The impatient Wu Huaquan hurriedly called Li Mengxi for help. Hearing the news, Li Mengxi rushed to the town of Hekou more than 20 kilometers away without saying a word. The experienced Li Mengxi immediately saw the problem in Wu Huaquan's silkworm house: the hygiene was too poor and there was no ventilation window. "it was really thanks to him, otherwise I would have paid for it." To this day, Wu Huaquan is still grateful for Li Mengxi's help.

In addition to helping other silkworm farmers, Li Mengxi also gave preferential treatment to the workers in his silkworm house. "now the daily wage is 150 yuan, which is higher than the salary I used to work in the Pearl River Delta." Huang Xiaomei, a villager who works in the silkworm house, said she was no longer willing to go out to work.

"the reputation of mulberry gardens spreads everywhere, and the villagers become rich and happy." These are two poems written by Li Mengxi himself, and it is also a microcosm of his dream of sericulture. When he is rich, he also wants to lead the farmers around him to develop together and live a good life together.
