The post-80s boy who turned idle farmland into lotus root field led the villagers to shake off poverty and go to health.
"Changxi can pick lotus, lotus leaves and fields, fish play between lotus leaves …..." This poem, based on the Han folk song "Jiangnan", is sung in Changxi Village, Baolun Town, Lizhou District, Guangyuan City. Changxi Village gets its name from the Changxi River, which is famous for its rural eco-tourism. Now, in the small mountain village, ordinary people have found another way to get rich-- follow the post-80s young man Guo Yankun to grow lotus root.
"in more than a month, the lotus flowers here will bloom, and they will be very beautiful!" On April 15, pointing at more than 20 mu of lotus root fields in front of him, Guo Yankun was full of anticipation.
Guo Yankun, 30, not only grows his own lotus root to get rich, but also works with everyone without reservation. He is not old, but he has a big heart. Together with the cadres in the village, he has designed a plan for the industrial development of Changxi Village. According to his own account, if he works hard for a few more years, he will be able to turn all the idle farmland in the village into lotus root fields, form an industrial chain, create a brand, and eventually develop into an eco-tourism agricultural belt.
Many years ago, Guo Yankun's parents supported him and his sister by growing some food and vegetables and doing some farm work in the town. In 2002, Guo Yankun planted turmeric and Gastrodia elata at home, and he carefully managed and protected the "experimental field". In 2005, the bumper harvest did not bring the slightest joy to Guo Yankun, when the market was not good, turmeric rotted in the ground, Gastrodia elata did not make money. In desperation, Guo Yankun could only do odd jobs in a small restaurant in the town, 100 yuan a month. In 2006, Guo Yankun went to work in Shenzhen. with the strength of studying and practicing hard, he gradually grew from a small part-time job that knew nothing to a backbone of business, and his salary increased from a few hundred yuan per month to more than 3000 yuan per month. When there was a sudden Wenchuan earthquake in 2008, the filial piety Guo Yankun quit his job and returned to his hometown. With government subsidies and some of his own savings, the young man built a new house, got an electrician's license, got a job as an electrician, and raised Loach and eel at home in his spare time.
Considering that aquaculture needs shade, he planted some lotus roots in the pond. Unexpectedly, after a heavy rain, Loach and eel "fled" along the surface of the water to the edge of the field, and the result can be imagined. What makes the young man a little gratified is that the lotus root, which was originally used as an auxiliary product, actually saved some economic losses for him. As a result, Guo Yankun decided to grow lotus root mainly, supplemented by raising Loach and eel. In 2011, he planted more than 2 mu of lotus root with an income of more than 20,000 yuan; in 2012, Guo Yankun constantly explored and innovated in technology, using all his 6 mu of land to grow lotus root, earning more than 70,000 yuan; in 2013, he transferred 14 mu of land full of confidence, plus his own 6 mu, a total of 20 mu, and led local people to plant lotus root together, with a total income of more than 100,000 yuan that year.
There are seven groups in Changxi village, of which one, two and six groups of villagers gradually regard growing lotus root as their own leading industry. Today, more than 10 villagers have tasted the benefits. One group of Deng Chunde planted two mu with an income of more than 20,000, while the second group of Lei Qifu only planted more than one mu with an income of more than 10,000 yuan.
"if you have too much fertilizer, you have to be greedy for green, but if you don't have enough fertilizer, you can't get up the output." Seeing that it will be more than two months before the lotus viewing period, Guo Yankun seize the time to teach lessons to the villagers in order to further increase income in rural tourism and industrial development this year.
