Amid the bewilderment of her teachers and friends, 46-year-old female doctor Fa Yueping resolutely gave up her high salary and prosperous life in a metropolis to take root with her long-cherished red earthworm from Nanjing thousands of miles away to the countryside of Shandong Province.

Fa Yueping, who graduated from the Department of Transportation Engineering of Southeast University in 1992, has been working in Nanjing with a considerable income. Later, she went on to further her studies at Nanjing University, where she received her doctorate in management in 2010 and taught related courses in engineering management.

At the end of 2014, she decisively quit her teaching job, took her entrepreneurial team to Zhifang Village to transfer 100 mu of land, and introduced 10 tons of red earthworms from Northwest University of Agriculture and Forestry to start a pastoral entrepreneurial life.

At present, the land area of "circulation" of Fayueping has increased to 400 mu. In addition to planting corn, several rows of snow peach trees have been planted. Under the peach tree are rows of cow dung and straw piles that cultivate earthworms. She is planning a bigger dream: to use earthworm manure in organic production, to use earthworm cavity in biomedicine, to make an earthworm grow into a large industry, and to lead more and more farmers, especially poor households, to participate in earthworm breeding and processing.
