An ordinary breeding experiment class, a small stone frog anatomy experiment, a joke that "stone frogs are very expensive" opened the way for a college student to start a business and become rich.

In the aquaculture safety laboratory of Haike Building of Zhejiang Ocean University, grayish-black, rough-skinned stone frogs are bouncing around in the water tank. "although it looks a little ugly, don't judge the frog by its appearance. It's very valuable." Liu Zhiyu, a sophomore at the Fisheries College of Zhejiang Ocean University, shyly showed the various forms of stone frogs from eggs to adults.

Liu Zhe-Yu, with a green face, is already in charge of Zhoushan Yuanmao breeding Technology Service Co., Ltd.

Stone frog with edge under scalpel

Stone frog, known as thorn-breasted frog, grows in the hilly areas of the south, with delicious meat, expensive price, high medicinal and edible value, and is a rare folk delicacy, so it is known as the "king of frogs".

At the same weight, the stone frog has the same protein content as lean beef, but its fat content is 4% of that of lean beef. On the market, the price of bullfrog is about 16 yuan / jin, while the stone frog can sell for 200 yuan / jin.

"in a breeding experiment class, we learned to dissect stone frogs. During the dissection, the teacher humorously said,'be careful, your knife is 100 yuan.'" Liu Zhiyu recalled that at that time, he looked at the ugly stone frog in front of him, was surprised by its high price, and immediately collected a lot of information online after class.

He found that stone frogs are expensive because the breeding cycle is as long as three years, while wild stone frogs are difficult to catch, artificial stone frogs are small in scale and have a low survival rate, and most of the farms can only be built on mountains. "the farmers work so hard that they will lose all their money in bad weather. If only stone frogs could be raised on the plain!" This idea took root in Liu Zhe-Yu's mind.

He discussed the possibility of stone frog farming with professional teachers many times. With the help of teachers, Liu Zhe-Yu began the research on stone frog culture. In the process, he met many like-minded people. After the plain culture technology is becoming more and more mature, Liu Zhe-Yu led the team to inject money into the establishment of Zhoushan Yuanmao Culture Technology Service Co., Ltd., committed to the promotion of plain culture technology.

Patents support the development of blue ocean

The activity of stone frog is closely related to the external environmental conditions, especially the changes of water temperature and flow. The suitable water temperature is 15-25 ℃, the activity is normal; the water temperature is too low, the activity is less, the growth is stagnant, hibernating; if the water temperature is too high, it is abnormal, even death.

Liu Zhiyu and team members have made great efforts to study this problem. At present, the breeding cycle of stone frog has been shortened by 1-2 years, so that the survival rate of tadpoles during metamorphosis is more than 95%, which can help farmers greatly expand the scale of breeding and improve economic benefits.

In addition, Liu Zhe-Yu's company has the right to use two patents, including disease prevention, fast-growing bait, feed pedigree and other core technologies, and is applying for other advanced technology patents. The strength of technology research and development is extremely strong, which provides solid technical support for the company's development and further opening up the market.

After breaking through the technical difficulties, Liu Zhe-Yu's team came to a standstill in marketing-no one trusted a few college students who had not yet emerged.

"the most difficult thing is not technology, but how to make farmers trust our technology." Recalling the experience of starting a business, Liu Zhe-Yu said: "at first, we visited a number of farms, and the owners of the farms felt that we had no real skills as soon as they saw that we were college students who had not yet graduated. Later, we gained their trust by learning about their recent problems and providing feasible solutions. "

In constantly hitting the wall and groping, Liu Zhe-Yu's company finally signed a cooperation agreement with Yuyao Longkeng Farm in Zhejiang Province. This is undoubtedly an incentive for his team to promote their technology to more farms in Ningbo, Jinhua, Hangzhou, Jiangsu and other places.

Under the unremitting efforts, more and more farmers know about this group of "stone frog college students". Liu Zhiyu excitedly told reporters: "at present, there are already eight farms that have reached the intention of cooperation with us."

Full of confidence and focus on expansion

Despite the lack of funds, lack of experience, and difficulties in technological research and development. But Liu Zhiyu's newborn calf is not afraid of tigers, and he is full of confidence in his team's skills. "it will certainly be able to spread across the plains of the country." Liu Zhe-Yu is under oath.

Now, Liu Zhe-Yu's company is planning to set up a training course on stone frog breeding techniques, and to set up a "trial breeding demonstration household", so that more farmers can benefit from it.

It is reported that Liu Zhe-Yu's company has generated 188000 of its income by signing technical service contracts with farms and selling feed and frog seedlings. It is estimated that about 1000 jin of frog seedlings will be sold this year, with economic benefits of more than 400000 yuan.

"We are making a set of stone frog growth cycle simulation system to promote technology to farmers; we are preparing to build a professional laboratory that can more intuitively study and improve the breeding technology of stone frogs; continue to extend the base seedlings and technology to provinces and cities around Zhejiang and even the whole country; focus on expanding overseas markets such as South Korea and Japan, so that stone frogs can leap out of the country." Speaking of the future, Liu Zhe-Yu is full of confidence.

"as there are very few stone frogs in the wild, based on the protection of wild animals and the balance of natural ecology, our team plans to release 1000 young frogs back to nature this year." Liu Zhiyu told reporters that this is also one of the reasons why he chose to study stone frogs at that time, hoping to improve the genes of wild stone frogs, so that such a precious "king of frogs" can better survive in a harsh environment.
