Taking root in the countryside for several years and getting rich by raising fish with both hands seems difficult to connect with post-90s college students, but Lu Zehui of Gulong Village, Hongqiao Town, Changxing County has done it. In just three years, he has more than doubled the average output value per mu of his river pond. This change mainly stems from the fact that he raised a kind of fish called Ophiocephalus Argus.

In the aquaculture base of Gulong Village, Hongqiao Town, the author met Lu Zehui, who was born in 1991. He wears a pair of half-rimmed glasses, his skin is dark, he is thin, and he is sophisticated in talking. he is not the "fresh flesh" of the post-90s generation, but the image of an "old fisherman".

"this is Shatang snakehead. We Changxing people are called 'Dangbu'." Lu Zehui caught a fish in the palm of his hand and said with a smile, "you see, this fish is easy to catch and doesn't move much in the hand, so this kind of fish is also called silly fish and lazy fish." Look at this small snakehead, about 10 centimeters long, with black stripes and a wide, flat mouth. Lu Zehui says that it is these small fish that have sharply increased the efficiency of his aquaculture, and can sell at a high price of 70 to 80 yuan per catty.

In 2012, after graduating from college, Lu Zehui returned home to raise mandarin fish and river crabs, but due to lack of experience, all the lake crabs raised in the pond escaped, causing him to lose 60,000 to 70,000 yuan at a time. Later, he learned that the Hongqiao town government was promoting the breeding of Ophiocephalus Argus. Although the price is high and there is a market, some aquaculture farmers are worried that it will eat shrimp, which will affect the production of lake crabs and shrimp. Few people are willing to try. Young Lu Zehui saw a business opportunity.

"Shatang snakehead is naturally small and eats at most some small fish and shrimps, which purifies the culture environment." With the mentality of giving it a try, he first tried to raise two river ponds and put the sand pond snakehead together with lake crabs and river shrimp. However, when he first recovered the cage, he found that although the production of lake crabs was not affected, the yield of Ophiocephalus Argus decreased significantly, and there were a large number of remains of snakehead in the cage.

Why does this happen when fish and crabs can coexist peacefully? It turns out that this is caused by the "laziness" of Shatang snakehead. When fishing, because the fish and crabs are all crowded in a ground cage, the motionless snakehead can easily be mistakenly injured by the struggling lake crabs, resulting in a reduction in yield. After the improvement of the ground cage and the appropriate reduction of the density of fish and crabs, this problem was solved.

In the process of interculture, because the snakehead ate harmful fish and shrimp, the yield and quality of lake crabs were improved. Today, all of Lu Zehui's 100 mu crab ponds have adopted this model, and the output value per mu has increased from the initial 4,000 to 5,000 yuan to more than 10,000 yuan. At present, more than 10 aquaculture farmers in Changxing have raised this kind of fish, and the benefits have been significantly improved.
