"you can't enjoy yourself in the countryside. You must do something, and you can't waste your youth." At yesterday's forum to commemorate the 97th anniversary of the May 4th Movement and "the most Beautiful Youth of struggle", Peng Xiangwei, a university student village official of Huangbao Town people's Government in Baokang County, expressed his understanding of "youth."

After graduating from university in 2010, Peng Xiangwei gave up the preferential treatment in the big city, cherished the dream of youth and the desire to build a new countryside, and became a university student village official.

When his parents learned that Peng Xiangwei had been admitted as a university student village official in Xiangyang City and was assigned to Baokang County, which is more than 300 miles away from home, Peng Xiangwei's mother, who had always been strong, burst into tears.

However, his parents' complaints did not dispel Peng Xiangwei's idea, but strengthened his determination to do meritorious deeds in rural areas. Peng Xiangwei was duty-bound to set foot on the quiet place he longed for in his heart-Huanglonggou Village, Huangbao Town.

It is understood that Huanglonggou village has no industry, 80% of the young and strong labor force goes out to work, and most of the people who stay in the village are women, children and the elderly.

If sericulture can be restored and developed, the villagers will be able to obtain employment on their doorstep.

In the spring of 2011, Peng Xiangwei rented 5 mu of idle land at his own expense to plant mulberry trees for trial cultivation. In the autumn of that year, six silkworm beds were successfully raised on a trial basis, and the output value of each bed reached 1300 yuan.

Farmers saw the hope and joined the sericulture team one after another. In the spring of 2012, 27 new mulberry households and nearly 100 mu of mulberry trees were planted in the village.

In the first taste of success, in the spring of 2013, there was a bad news that the silkworms had no market due to the tightening of the market and the divestment of upstream companies. Peng Xiangwei did not give up and turned his attention to ecological breeding.

After full investigation, large-scale breeding of native pheasants was started by means of planting and interplanting and interplanting, and the development of silkworm industry and pheasant breeding was determined as a development path to help villagers shake off poverty and become rich.

As a result of selling well ahead of time, the benefit of native chicken has always been very good. In 2013, 120 farmers in the village raised native chickens, with a per capita net income of 6518 yuan. "I also know that there will be difficulties and ups and downs on the road to future development, but I firmly believe that as long as we are strong-willed, rooted in the countryside, not afraid of failure and hardship, we will certainly be able to lead more people out of poverty and become rich." Peng Xiangwei is full of hope for the future.
