College students go back to their hometown to be swineherds and knock on the door to get rich with their skills.

When many rural children jumped out of the "agricultural gate" and worked hard in the city, Liu Yang, a college student who graduated from Baoding Vocational and Technical College, rushed back to the countryside to become a "swineherd."

He had a bond with pigs since childhood and returned to his hometown to raise pigs after graduation.

Liu Yang has often watched his mother raise pigs since he can remember. Under the influence of his mother, Liu Yang often helped his mother feed pigs when he came home from school, but due to the use of the native method handed down for generations, pigs grew slowly, the production efficiency was low, and the case fatality rate was high. Liu Yang, who likes raising pigs, sees it in his eyes and is anxious in his heart. After graduating from high school, Liu Yang chose to apply for the veterinary major of Baoding Vocational and Technical College and wanted to contribute to the aquaculture industry in his hometown.

In 2012, Liu Yang, who graduated from the Municipal Vocational and Technical College, gave up the opportunity to work and live in the city after a year of professional internship practice abroad, and resolutely chose to return to his hometown, Shuidong Village, Laishui County, to run a pig farm with his mother. Became a "swineherd".

Since then, people can see Liu Yang's busy figure in the pig farm every day. Whether it is mixing feed, feeding pigs, clearing pig manure, sow breeding, piglet delivery, disease prevention, and pig farm disinfection, he has been busy from 4 o'clock in the morning to more than 9 o'clock in the evening. Under Liu Yang's hard work, there are 33 sows in the pig farm and more than 400 live pigs in stock.

Evade the risk of breeding and get benefit from raising pigs scientifically

Liu Yang is very confident in scientific farming. "I believe that scientific pig farming can become rich. As long as we make good use of science and technology, we will certainly be able to avoid breeding risks and maximize breeding profits." When he returned to his hometown to raise pigs, the first thing he did was to transform the pig house and improve the "welfare benefits" for pigs. He divides the pig house into five different functional areas: breeding room, pregnancy room, delivery room, nursery room and breeding room, semi-automatic feeding and separation of sewage channels, so that both hygiene and standardized management can be realized. At the same time, he transformed the monitoring equipment, using a computer, a network cable, and several cameras, he could sit in front of the computer and "get a panoramic view" of the entire farm, and then download a remote intelligent monitoring system in his mobile phone to synchronize app. As long as there was a network, he could know the situation of the farm like the back of his hand anywhere, saving time and effort, and being convenient and fast. Since the monitoring equipment was put into use, the survival rate of piglets has increased to more than 90%.

In the pig industry, there is a saying that "earn one year, lose one year, even three years". Apart from the price of raw pork fluctuating with the market, the biggest loss to pig farmers is the swine epidemic. As soon as Liu Yang went home to raise pigs, he put "epidemic prevention" in the first place. In December 2015, most parts of China experienced a "cold wave of the century". The temperature dropped sharply, and an outbreak of "diarrhea" broke out in pig farms around Liu Yang's hometown, resulting in the death of a large number of piglets, and some pig farmers lost hundreds of thousands of dollars at a time. Due to epidemic prevention in advance and proper management, Liu Yang's pig farm successfully avoided this "disaster" and achieved a good market of more than 600 pigs and a net profit of more than 600,000 yuan that year.

Expand the scale of breeding, enlarge and strengthen the industry

Liu Yang believes that it is impossible to persist in the aquaculture industry without excellent technology and modern equipment; only by taking the road of moderate scale farming can we gain advantages in financing, purchase price, epidemic control, and environmental protection, effectively resist market risks, and maximize the interests of pig farmers.

Since 2013, Liu Yang began to expand his pig farm. To this end, he went to the surrounding large-scale farms, went back to his alma mater to consult his teacher, transferred 30 mu of land, started the pig farm expansion project, and formulated a scientific and feasible standardized pig farm construction plan.

"the expanded pig farm is divided into management area, production area, isolation area and manure storage and treatment area. Fully automatic feeding and manure removal systems are installed to manually control the climate of pig houses to ensure healthy breeding." Talking about the construction of the new pig farm, the dark-skinned, inarticulate young man's face glowed. "the pig farm will also build an ecological, environment-friendly, and energy-based sewage treatment system. Pig waste will be collected centrally through pipelines. Through fermentation treatment in the biogas digester, the use of biogas for heating and power generation, the solid can be processed into organic fertilizer, and the liquid can be irrigated and fertilized, so as to achieve zero discharge." Under the ideal incentive, in June 2015, Liu Yang registered and established the "Dongyang Farm of Laishui County".

"A few years later, my farm will produce at least 5000 pigs a year, making it the largest Piedmont pig farm in Laishui County." Liu Yang appears to be very confident about his future plans. He said that he is a "pig farmer who is willing to bear hardships". He is more and more energetic and confident in raising pigs in science. Although he has made small achievements in starting a business, his dream of starting a business is always on the way.
