Bian Shuhua is feeding the fox.

In the fox farm of Bian Shuhua, a breeder in Chutou Lang Village, Chutou Lang Town, Songshan District, Chifeng City, 150 foxes waiting to give birth have a round belly and bright hair.

Bian Shuhua and her husband were laid-off workers. In 2010, under the guidance of a large fox farmer in Chutou Lang Village, Bian Shuhua and his wife moved into the fox farming community in the village and introduced 10 foxes from Heilongjiang, starting a "snowball" development. Today, the number of foxes has grown to 1000, including silver foxes, blue foxes, red foxes and marmosets. The breeding efficiency has also been popular all the way. When the benefit is best, the net profit per fox skin is 800yuan, and the annual net income is more than 100000 yuan. However, at the end of last year, each fox skin dropped from 630 yuan last year to 420 yuan. Bian Shuhua worries that if prices fall further, profits will be even less.

Although she doesn't know what supply-side reform is, this spring, Bian Shuhua took practical action to carry out supply-side reform-- to increase the birth rate of female foxes. "among the factors that determine the reproduction rate of female foxes, artificial insemination is the key." Bian Shuhua said that foxes giving birth to two cubs at a time is only a capital preservation, and only those who have more than two can be counted as making money. Last year, because of her poor insemination skills, her foxes gave birth to only two or three babies on average. This year, she hired a skilled technician. Bian Shuhua has confidence in the upcoming fox cubs: "conservatively estimate that each female fox will give birth to four to five cubs at a time, even if the market is not good."

Reducing costs is also Bian Shuhua's countermeasure to deal with the low price of fox skin. In the past, Bian Shuhua had to hire two people to work, but this year she and her husband fed it themselves, saving about 40,000 yuan at once. In the past, corn accounted for only 1/3 of the feed, but this year she has appropriately increased the proportion of corn feeding to reduce expenses. Today, animal scraps such as corn, feed and chickens and ducks have become "rations" for Bian Shuhua's foxes. To Bian Shuhua's delight, the prices of corn and feed have dropped this spring, and the cost of raising foxes has also been reduced. "the feeding cost of each fox has dropped from 300 yuan to 200 yuan, which is also room for value-added." Bian Shuhua is still optimistic about fox breeding.

At present, with the support of the government in Songshan District, Bian Shuhua and fox farmers in the same village are setting up specialized cooperatives for fox breeding. "huddling" to enter the market can enjoy the preferential policy of government loans and discount, but also reduce feeding costs and increase the market voice.
