In 2010, Chen Weibo, who had been out of university for only one year, voluntarily gave up his high-paying position in a French-funded enterprise in Shenzhen, returned to Jigongqiao Village, Longtian Town, Xingning City, where he spent his childhood, and took over his uncle's nearly failed meat pigeon farm, thus opening the hard road to entrepreneurship. Starting from scratch in the first three years, the scale of meat pigeon farming has grown from 3,000 pairs to 50,000 pairs, making it the largest meat pigeon farm in eastern Guangdong. In the panic caused by the bird flu epidemic in 2013, more than 100,000 meat pigeons were unsalable and suffered heavy losses. After this newspaper reported his entrepreneurial deeds in September last year, Chen Weibo has started the brand of Xingning Golden Pigeon, moved towards automatic breeding, built a sales network in Fujian, Guangdong and Jiangxi, and extended to all parts of the country.

Return visit

At Chen Weibo's pigeon breeding base, the reporter saw 27 pigeon sheds lined up on the hill, while he shuttled through the rows of pigeon cages in the shed, carefully checking the record table of each pigeon, instructing workers to feed and asking about pigeon eating, and so on. Seven years ago, Chen Weibo, who grew up in Shenzhen and studied in Guangzhou, always remembered his uncle who treated him like a son in his hometown. in return for his family, he gave up his job with an annual salary of 100,000 yuan in a foreign company in Shenzhen and gave up four years of engineering knowledge to stay with pigeons. As a new farmer, he is a person with no experience, no technology and no theoretical knowledge. Now in his thirties, he has become a leader in driving thousands of farmers to raise pigeons to become rich.

Chen Weibo first worked as an apprentice for an old pigeon master in his hometown. While studying, he worked as a "babysitter" for the first batch of 3000 pairs of pigeons. "the first thing I do when I get up at six o'clock every day is to feed the pigeons hungry. Instead, I have gastrointestinal problems." In the third year, through online teaching, he became a member of the undergraduate students of animal medicine in China Agricultural University to learn professional knowledge of breeding. "each pigeon has a record board to register in detail the time when the order was issued and hatched, and to manage it scientifically." That year, the scale of pigeon farming expanded to more than 40, 000 pairs, with annual sales of nearly 1 million meat pigeons.

In 2013, Chen Weibo, who focused on building a large meat pigeon breeding base, was forced to Liangshan by a sudden bird flu epidemic and began to run the market in the most primitive way to build a sales network. When the epidemic broke out at the beginning of that year, there were more than 50,000 pairs of pigeons in his base, and if he could not sell them, he would directly lose more than 2 million yuan. To this end, he could only open up the surrounding rural market and sell it at a low price. At the same time, he borrowed 1 million yuan from relatives and friends to preserve the breeding pigeon and to ensure the breeding of the next year. "it's like fighting a war every day. I get up after 4 o'clock, run more than ten points a day, sell pigeons at rural fairs and street entrances, run hundreds of rural markets in Meizhou, and go to Jiangxi and Fujian. Once you give up, you will lose the whole game, so there is no way out! " For the whole of 2013, he reduced the size of pigeon farming by 30% by 50%.

After this battle, Chen Weibo was deeply aware of the importance of the integration of production and marketing and brand building. "I realize that no matter how big the base construction is, I fail to grasp the fluctuations of the market in time, and without the competitiveness of the brand, once I encounter the same situation again, I will still be in a passive danger." In 2014, he invited a friend who works in a large national family farm as a technical consultant, and cooperated with Guangdong Science and Trade Vocational College to introduce technical talents. Now the company has a technical team of 5 people. "the current direction is to gradually change to automated farming, realizing the integration of production and marketing." Today, 10% of meat pigeon farming has realized automatic feeding and automatic drinking water, saving half of the manpower; at the same time, more than 100,000 yuan has been invested in the construction of frozen storage, which has solved the problem of product storage. Chen Weibo said that in the first half of this year, a new 200mu base capable of raising 100000 pairs of meat pigeons will be built, and the scale of breeding will be tripled.

"I want to start the brand of 'Xingning Golden Pigeon' and make the meat pigeon breeding industry bigger and stronger." Chen Weibo is not empty talk. now his meat pigeon farm is the largest in eastern Guangdong and the only one bred by ancestral pigeons in eastern Guangdong. At the same time, Meizhou Jinlu Modern Agricultural Development Co., Ltd. was registered to drive nearly a thousand farmers in surrounding villages and towns to become rich in the way of "company + farmers", and set up a sales network in Fujian, Guangdong and Jiangxi. And began to extend to Beijing, Shanghai, Tianjin and other cities.

Dialogue

Deal with farmers

It's a technical job.

Reporter: as a scholar, how do you deal with so many farmers so that they can follow you and develop together?

Chen Weibo: first of all, I will make achievements in the meat pigeon farm to convince everyone. At first, pigeon-raising skills and theoretical knowledge were self-taught from scratch or learned from the master. With the continuous expansion of the scale of breeding, many farmers have tasted the benefits after working with me. Many people only raise pigeons after work to subsidize some household use, but after joining hands with me to develop, they adopt a unified feed and unified management model. Raising pigeons has become their main business. A family breeds 3000 pairs of meat pigeons, with an annual income of about 100, 000 yuan in the normal market.

In fact, cooperation with farmers has also had a period of running-in time. They have raised pigeons for more than a decade and have formed a mindset, so it is difficult for them to accept the new methods of breeding management. For example, every pigeon has a record board to carefully record when it lays eggs and calves. Many farmers feel unnecessary at the beginning and always do not record it. I was more impatient, but they were also stubborn. Gradually I became patient, telling me and saying it over and over again, and then they slowly corrected it.

Reporter: after joining a group with farmers, how to guide and lead their development?

Chen Weibo: to learn the "Wen's model" is to establish entrusted production relations with farmers, who bear certain production risks, but the risks in technology, management, and market are borne by my company, that is, the "company + farmers" model. Pay attention to the interests of farmers and form a close interest relationship with them. The experience of farmers in technology and management is provided by me, and at the same time, they purchase feed uniformly, even if the market is depressed, they also purchase their meat pigeons, and after sharing the costs, the distributors will benefit the farmers. Therefore, dealing with farmers is also a technical task, first of all, we must have leadership to convince them of you; secondly, we should really benefit farmers and mobilize their enthusiasm for production.

Reporter: did the bird flu in 2013 shake you? Where does your determination to be strong and big come from?

Chen Weibo: I think entrepreneurship itself is the coexistence of risks and opportunities, but I have always been full of confidence in myself. At the beginning, in order to sell more than 100000 pigeons, all my relatives and friends helped me to go to the market, including my wife and the elderly at home. Their support made me both moved and guilty. Moreover, there are hundreds of farmers who initially chose to trust me. I was their leader in entering the market, and some of them even gave up their previous careers to raise pigeons with me. I can't let them down!

But after this uphill battle, I have accumulated experience in dealing with unexpected situations. My experience in technology and management will be shared with farmers. Only in this way will farmers boldly follow you and further expand the scale of breeding. I am not afraid that someone will come in and compete with me for the market, and I hope that it can lead more farmers to get rich together. Now I have joined the provincial meat pigeon association and often share my experience with other farmers. Only in this way can I really make the industry stronger and bigger.
