Fang Dong checked the growth of the olive tree.

Ten years ago, he found his own way to grow olive trees. He not only became an expert in olive trees, but also registered an agricultural development company. From then on, he embarked on the golden road to wealth. His goal is not only to plant olive trees, but also to extend to the processing field to produce olive oil from Shiyan. He is Fang Dong, deputy general manager of Jilan Garden (Hubei) Agricultural Development Co., Ltd.

The unit changed its system and decided to plant olive trees instead.

Fang Dong, a 48-year-old native of Fangxian County, originally worked in a unit in Shiyan City. In 2002, Fang Dong's mother went to the hospital because of high blood pressure. The doctor told Fang Dong that his mother had this disease and had better eat olive oil. Fang Dong grew up in the countryside and knew sesame oil, peanut oil and vegetable oil, but he had never heard of olive oil. For the sake of his mother's health, Fang Dong inquired about where to sell olive oil. Later he heard that there was a store specializing in olive oil on Liulin Road, 200 yuan per jin!

At that time, Fang Dong's monthly salary was only more than 200 yuan. "what kind of oil is this? a jin is equivalent to my monthly salary!" Fang Dong was surprised.

Fang Dong's mother ate olive oil and her illness was really relieved. From then on, Fang Dong paid attention to olive oil. Through newspapers and magazines, Fang Dong learned that olive oil is the oil extracted from olive fruit, which is known as "liquid gold" in the West. It has many functions, such as promoting blood circulation, improving digestive system function, cosmetology, preventing cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases, and so on. It is very popular in Europe and the United States.

When the unit was reformed in 2003, Fang Dong was faced with the question of where to go. Knowing the efficacy and market value of olive oil, Fang Dong began to think about whether he could do something on the olive tree.

Fang Dong's first consideration is whether Shiyan is suitable for planting olive trees. He learned that olive trees were planted in our city in the 1960s and 1970s, but they were abandoned because they did not produce considerable economic value, and some of them were hidden in the mountains and forests.

Fang Dong has never seen an olive tree. After learning that there was a left olive tree in Liuyan Mountain, he went to look for it, and finally found it. Fang Dong found that although this olive tree has experienced decades of wind and rain, it is full of vitality. People who know the habits of olive trees tell Fang Dong that the low mountains and valleys below 600 meters above sea level in Shiyan are more suitable for planting olive trees, which usually freeze and dry no matter how extreme the weather is. Fang Dong also visited Yunyang District, where olive trees were planted, and found that many unattended olive trees stood erect in the fields of farmers. Since it has been planted for decades and can grow so well without care, it shows that olive trees can be planted in Shiyan.

Since 2003, Fang Dong has spent more than two years investigating and studying the olive tree project. After coming to a positive conclusion, Fang Dong decided to plant olive trees on a large scale.

Invest millions to build an olive base in Liupi

In 2006, Fang Dong built an olive tree base in Liupi Town, Yunyang District, covering an area of 50 mu. The first batch of saplings were purchased from Longnan, Gansu Province. Since then, Fang Dong has bid farewell to the prosperity of the city, eating and living in the base, and is busy with planting seedlings, weeding and other farm work every day.

It is the first step that costs troublesome. Although there is a "money scene" for planting olive trees, Fang Dong only found it difficult to really join this trip. First of all, although Fang Dong went out to learn planting techniques before planting, he still encountered all kinds of problems in the actual operation: pruning the tree, the branch was not repaired, the tree died; spraying herbicide, the grass was fine, but the tree was destroyed. Fang Dong worked while learning, slowly groping. In the end, he was admitted as a second-class national horticultural technician.

In addition, planting olive trees faces a severe test: the big investment is slow to achieve results. If olive trees are well planted, they will not bear fruit until a few years later; if they are not planted well, they will not bear fruit for many years. Before hanging the fruit, Fang Dong could only keep putting money into it. In just a few years, he "threw" more than 1 million yuan into the base. From 2006 to 2011, Fang Dong basically saw only input but no output.

At last, the olive fruit becomes the "fruit of getting rich".

After all, Fang Dong is a laid-off worker, unable to continue to invest. In a dilemma, Fang Dong was lucky to meet an honorable person. In 2011, he met a Taiwanese businessman who invested in the mainland. Taiwan businessmen are very optimistic about Fang Dong's olive oil project and decided to inject 10 million yuan. In the same year, Fang Dong contracted 500 mu of land in Shujiagou, Liupi Town, Yunyang District. Subsequently, Jilan Garden (Hubei) Agricultural Development Co., Ltd. was successfully registered, and Fang Dong became the deputy general manager.

After several years of planting, the olive seedlings planted in Fangdong grew into a forest and hung fruit on a large scale in 2015. Once the olive tree hangs its fruit, each tree is a "small oil field", hanging fruit year after year, and Fang Dong smiles.

In recent years, Fang Dong has cooperated with people to build a number of olive tree bases in Danjiangkou City, Yunyang District and other places by providing technology to buy shares. In addition, he also introduced and planted more than 20 olive seedlings, bringing the number of seedlings to more than 30, and cooperated with some farmers through the sale of seedlings. The olive seedlings he sells are more adapted to the local climate and soil because they are cultivated locally, and the survival rate of planting is much higher than that of seedlings purchased from other places, so it is very popular among farmers.

In 2015, Fang Dong also tried to produce olive oil from the harvested olive fruits, successfully producing 5 tons of olive oil. The oil was snapped up by friends and relatives before it went on sale. Some of them went to Fang Dong and asked to buy it, but because it was out of stock, he had to apologize again and again.

With in-depth development, olive oil produced in Shiyan is expected to be on the market.

Not long ago, the reporter Mu Ming came to Liupi Jilan Garden (Hubei) Agricultural Development Co., Ltd., Fang Dong is busy in the forest. Behind him, rows of olive trees were blooming. Fang Dong told reporters that olive trees harvest fruit every November, and this year's harvest should be good. At the base, the reporter also saw some olive branches that were drying in the shade. Fang Dong proudly told the reporter: "Olive trees are covered with treasures, olive leaves are useful, and pharmaceutical companies buy them for pharmaceutical purposes."

The reporter learned that at this year's "two sessions," Xue Liang, a member of the CPPCC National Committee, and six other members submitted "proposals on speeding up the development of the olive industry." In the "proposal", speeding up the development of the olive industry is placed in an important position to increase the income of farmers in poor areas.

Statistics show that China imported 42000 tons of olive oil in 2014 and is expected to reach 100000 tons at a net annual increase of 10, 000 tons by 2020.

Olive trees are bringing a steady stream of revenue to Fang Dong's company, but Fang Dong's future plans are more than that. Jilan Garden (Hubei) Agricultural Development Co., Ltd. has requisitioned land to build a plant and ordered a production line of olive oil cold pressing equipment produced in Italy. It is expected that by the end of this year, the production line will be in operation to produce olive oil from Shiyan.

After going through hardships and difficulties, the olive tree has brought more and more returns to Fang Dong, and he has embarked on the golden road to become rich. He believes that olive trees planted in Shiyan, which has good mountains, good water and good ecology, will certainly produce higher quality olive oil.
