With the continuous improvement of people's living standards, domestic seafood can no longer meet the "foodies", and "foreign seafood" has come to the citizens' table. Taiwan compatriot Chen Chiu-Chiu saw a business opportunity. Two years ago, he came to Chibi from Taiwan to raise crayfish (Macrobrachium rosenbergii).

Chen Qiujie's crayfish breeding base is located in the fifth group of Jintan Village, Puyi Office, Chibi City. On May 11, when the reporter arrived at the base, he was installing a water diversion pipe by the pond.

Chen Qiujie said that the crayfish he raised is very different from the local lobster. It is called Macrobrachium rosenbergii, which is native to Thailand and belongs to the seafood category. It is 5 times larger than the ordinary shrimp. Its shell is thin and fat, the meat is fresh and tender, the taste is delicious, and the nutrition is rich.

Chen Qiujie, who had worked in Shenzhen for many years, found that Shenzhen diners had a soft spot for Macrobrachium rosenbergii. After some market research, Chen Chiu-Chien learned that along the coast of the mainland, the supply of Macrobrachium rosenbergii was in short supply, while there was almost no sign of Macrobrachium rosenbergii in the mainland. So he decided to raise Macrobrachium rosenbergii in the mainland.

Macrobrachium rosenbergii has very high requirements for water quality. In order to find high-quality water sources, Chen Qiujie visited several places in the mainland, but failed to find a satisfactory breeding environment and ideal water sources. Later, recommended by his friends, he came to Chibi for an inspection and took a fancy to Jintan Village, Pudong Office. He felt that the geographical environment and the water quality of Jintan Reservoir were suitable for growing Macrobrachium rosenbergii. Chen Qiujie contracted 90 mu of land in 5 groups of Jintan Village and introduced Macrobrachium rosenbergii seedlings from other places for breeding.

In the course of breeding, Chen Qiujie returned to Taiwan many times to invite experts to provide technical guidance, and hired two technicians with high salary to breed them with science and technology. Chen Qiujie told reporters that all his crayfish eat microorganisms and bait, and the water source for breeding is the water of Jintan Reservoir, which consumers can rest assured to eat.

In August last year, Chen Qiujie's first batch of 20 mu lobsters harvested 5000 jin. Although his lobsters are more expensive than local lobsters, they are in short supply in Wuhan and Changsha and sold out in less than half a month.

Chen Qiujie, who is successful in the beginning, has expanded the breeding area this year, and he has already raised 50 mu of crayfish. According to his initial estimate, the per mu yield of crayfish will reach 400 jin this year, with a harvest of 20000 jin.

Chen Qiujie said that he will gradually expand the farming area, plan to cultivate 300 mu next year, and then build a freezer to ensure that consumers can eat delicious crayfish all the year round.
