In May, the sun shines on the earth in early summer, and on the vast fertile farmland of Huaiji County, mature chili peppers are waiting to be picked. Recently, the reporter walked into the pepper planting demonstration base of Liang Yuxing, an agricultural science and technology demonstration household in Yonghong Village, Liangcun Town, Huaiji County, and saw a busy scene.

Liang Yuxing planted a new variety of pepper-Line Pepper No. 8. Standing next to the farmland, the eyes are full of well-growing chili trees, which are covered with plump and slender chili peppers, bright and fresh and vibrant in the sun. A number of farmers went to the fields to pick chili peppers.

According to Liang Yuxing, at the end of 2015, under the guidance of the relevant agricultural technology departments in counties and towns, he was optimistic about the development prospect of hot pepper and immediately rented more than 60 mu of land and began to grow chili peppers. In early May this year, there was a harvest of chili peppers. "now it is the second time to harvest chili peppers, and a batch has already been harvested during the May Day holiday." Liang Yuxing said that more than 5000 kilograms of chili peppers were harvested in the first batch alone, and the number of chili peppers picked now is conservatively estimated to be more than 15000 kilograms.

What is the current market price of chili peppers? Is the sales prospect good? In this regard, Liang Yuxing told reporters that the price of chili pepper purchased in Fuxi market, a large agricultural batch market in Foshan, is 5.2 yuan / kg, and the transportation cost of chili pepper to the agricultural batch market is 0.2 yuan per kilogram. According to this calculation, the sale of these two batches of chili peppers can earn more than 100000 yuan. "at present, the average amount of land rent, agricultural materials and employment fees that have been invested is 2000 yuan per mu, with a total investment of 120000 yuan. After these two batches of chili peppers are sold, they can almost recover the cost, and after the chili peppers harvested later are sold, they are basically all profits! " He said happily.

What makes Liang Yuxing even more confident is that, according to agricultural experts, this kind of chili will reach its peak in July, with more than 3000 kilograms of chili per mu in the whole harvest season. According to the current purchase price of 5.2yuan / kg, the income per mu can exceed 15000 yuan, more than 60 mu can harvest more than 180000 kilograms of chili, and the income can reach more than 900,000 yuan.

Zou Xiasheng, director of the agricultural technology extension center of the county, told reporters the reasons for the high income of growing chili peppers. "the main reason is to catch up with the gap period of chili peppers on the market." Zou Xiasheng analyzed that most of the pepper seedlings were frostbitten because of the cold last winter, and the pepper seedlings did not return to normal growth until early March this year, and the pepper in the base did not meet the harvest standard until early May. Just because the harvest was delayed, it coincided with the gap between the harvest of chili peppers in the north and the harvest of chili peppers in other parts of the south in May. "coupled with the fact that chili peppers are not fresh vegetables that are resistant to storage, the price on the market is higher."

"at present, the wholesale price of chili peppers in Fuxi market in Foshan is as low as 5.2 yuan per kilogram. In the retail market, chili peppers of the same quality have been sold to 20 yuan per kilogram, which greatly improves the economic benefits per unit area." Zou Xiasheng said that the prospect of growing chili peppers is considerable. At the same time, chili pepper cultivation is a labor-intensive industry, which needs to employ surrounding rural women. During the harvest period, more than 20 people need to be employed every day, and 5-6 people are usually employed by fertilizers and pesticides, which can not only promote the employment of surrounding rural women, but also increase their economic income.

Sister Li, a villager who is loading chili peppers next to her, said happily: "I am very grateful that the planting base has planted so many chili peppers that we can work and earn money on our doorstep."
