Such a large scale stems from Guo Maoyong's idea of growing vegetables: growing vegetables is about economies of scale, and only by increasing the scale can the profits of output go up. He has always firmly believed that growing vegetables can earn money only if the scale reaches more than 1 hectare.

This idea is clearly marked on his way to growing vegetables. In 2003, Guo Maoyong, a native of Tongliang, began to develop a vegetable base in Yongxi Town. The first piece of vegetable land rented in Shibao Village was 2 hectares. In 2012, the poised Lao Guo came to Ciyun Village to open a new base to try a greater level of economies of scale.

In the new base, Lao Guo began to grow seasonal vegetables as in the past, including wax gourd, pumpkin, radish, lotus white, children's vegetables, green vegetables, etc., each occupying a corner of the vegetable field. This deployment is more or less due to the consideration that "the east is not bright and the west is bright". However, when he really caught up with the bad market of certain kinds of vegetables, Lao Guo regretted growing fewer vegetables with good prices, so that he didn't make much money, which was a far cry from his expectations.

Lao Guo soon realized that it is still necessary to increase the scale, and it is best to develop high-output facility agriculture, but facility agriculture has a large investment and requires professional and technical personnel. considering that the current conditions are not available, Lao Guo decided to carry out vegetable field reform and grow only one kind of vegetables. that is the red vetch tip with fast growth and long growth cycle.

Since the year before last, Lao Guo has gradually expanded the planting area of Hongchujian. Last year, after he found a wholesale boss in Chongqing to cooperate, sales were no longer a problem. This year, the 13-hectare base of Laoguo is covered with red vetch tips.

From March to October, the base supplies 1.5 to 2 tons of red sprigs per day for distribution at Chongqing Shuangfu Wholesale Market. Such a stable and huge sales volume has given Lao Guo an unprecedented sense of achievement.

"Primary processing is better than selling vegetables directly."

In the gap period after the red vetch tip planting cycle, Lao Guo only planted radish, and the radish yield was raised all of a sudden. In the past two years, Lao Guo has made a "supply-side reform" exploration of radish, and found out the way.

This reform is to make kimchi, which is inseparable from radish kimchi on the table in Sichuan and Chongqing.

The year before last, Lao Guo made his first large-scale attempt to make kimchi and soaked more than 100 altars of radish, one ton each. A year later, kimchi was crisp and sold to Dazu, Tongliang, Bishan and other places, all sold out.

"if you do the initial processing, it will certainly be better than selling vegetables directly." Lao Guo's long-standing view has finally been strongly confirmed in the processing of kimchi: fresh radish planted in one mu of land can earn 200 yuan after cutting off the cost, produce 3 tons of radish per mu, and soak three altars of kimchi. Compared with selling only fresh radish, the price of each jar of kimchi is 300 yuan more. in this way, the profit of one mu of land can be increased to 1100 yuan.

With high output and steady profits, Lao Guo is determined to carry out the production of kimchi to the end. The radish used to make kimchi is not enough in their own base, so they buy it from neighboring farmers. This year, Lao Guo's kimchi has expanded to more than 360 altars.

Recently, the good news is that Lao Guo's kimchi this year has been booked by many merchants again.

Compared with the state of taking care of one thing and losing another a few years ago, the situation of growing vegetables is very different. With more and more confidence in the control of the market, Lao Guo has started a new plan.
